Apple TV App Features Revamped Navigation in tvOS 17.2 Beta

I’m really enjoying this new UI. I wonder why it wasn’t introduced at WWDC. This is a significant overhaul worthy of a full version update.

I’d even say that this may be a precursor to a new design language at Apple. They tend to test new concepts on their lesser used products first, before rolling out to their moneymakers.

tvOS’ side menu is right out of visionOS:

I can imagine this on iOS and possibly adapted to a cursor UI for macOS.

If there's one thing above all others that I loathe in all these apps, it's "Suggestions". Go. Away. They are never beneficial to me and only serve as a frustrating annoyance that gets in the way of me finding stuff I actually want to watch.

YOU DON'T KNOW ME! STOP TRYING TO!

A.I. will be the death of me solely due to inducing a conniption fit.
Completely agree! I like the way Amazon does things like that where you see all of the product information then the suggestions are down below if I’m interested. Apple’s method of blasting suggestions and burying content I’ve paid for has driven me away from the TV app.

I‘ve turned off integration with all other apps. If I want to watch Star Trek I just open up Paramount.
It‘s easier than navigating the TV app.

Why is it so hard for Apple to make a competent TV/Movie-watching app? Ever since TV+ subscription the iOS app has been horrid, the Apple TV app is just a mess, and I hear the Mac app is also trash. What's going on at Apple?
Innovation. And courage. :rolleyes::oops::rolleyes::oops::oops: *sigh*

and give us the ability to edit the side bar - remove stuff and rearrange apps.

That’s the key to making the sidebar useful. It needs more customization.

But the overall problem remains. The app looks like the old sunday supplement ads section from a newspaper. Way too many boxes with way too much content that is of zero interest to the user. Page after page of lame advertisements for shows you don’t pay for and that you’ll never watch. The core problem with the AppleTV app is that it isn’t designed for use. It’s designed to advertise.

Im happy they show a volume indicator now for those of us who have our avrs in a separate room. This update is definitely an improvement.

Now please add a parametric eq in iOS (fingers crossed)

If I have a critique for Amazon Prime, it lacks a filter for “show me only what’s already included* on Prime”. I hate having to scroll through all the $4 rentals.

* Note: not “free on Prime” because Prime itself has obviously gotten expensive.

Register on MacRumors! This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
