You can’t use the Apple remote app to control the AppleTV app. It sees it but does nothing.
Yes you can use the roku app but my point is the Apple app is a 1/2 arsed implementation and not what Apple or Roku was promising this past spring.
Your right you can’t because Apple isn’t in the business of creating interfaces for other people’s hardware... Apple’s Remote app is intended to control Apple Hardware, where Roku’s iOS app is intended to control ROKU HARDWARE...

And to play devils advocate there was no indication in either Apple or Roku’s press releases indicating anything more than and AppleTV APP primarily with the intent of pushing AppleTV+ services, the fact they are allowing library access is kind of a (welcome) bonus at this point. Neither indicated or promised Airplay 2 or HomeKit functionality. Other vendors did.

I love this. For the tv’s in my house that have a firestick. Only thing that i am disappointed in is i cannot use Alexa with the App. Like to pause, play etc. With netflix and everything else. I can play, pause etc. I hope they add the ability to do that with the Apple app.

Has anyone been able to successfully login to the app on a Fire stick today? I've tried both the mobile option ("verification failed try again in a few minutes") and entering the password manually, which just results in an endless "logging in" screen. Rebooted Fire, same thing. Was able to go login to a Roku Apple TV app fine just after this, so it seems to be Fire specific (and not a password typo). Hoping I'm not the only one so it'll get fixed faster lol.
I had the same issue. Turned out my FireTV Stick needed a software upgrade (hidden under the Settings/My Fire TV/About). Needed multiple downloads to get current. Sign on worked after upgrades.

Your Apple ID is probably the most valuable digital user identity account out there - it holds EVERYTHING (your Mac, your iPhone, iCloud, film & music purchases, software purchases) and you are willing to share your password and details to a cheap, horribly made Amazon or Roku or Samsung product that's constantly connected to the Internet with zero or very few security updates. Are you crazy?

What a terrible idea.

Let's see how long before these devices are hacked!

So only Apple makes quality products? Only Apple does things right? And yet Apple made the decision to roll out iTunes library support (so their market for AppleTV+ actually has more than a handful of users as AppleTV 4K is expensive) and one would assume these Apps use Apple's own security routines (the device is just a computer to it and FireTVs are just Linux variations. closely related to UNIX of which macOS is a member of, not some bug-ridden product like Microsoft Windows 10). I guess Apple is damned if they do and damned if they don't. Or perhaps some people enjoy being part of a small heavily overpriced niche as the masses buying it would make them feel less than special?

As for AppleID, you make it sound like a social security number. I don't know what you're doing with your AppleID, but the only thing on mine is my free streaming library I get with Blu-Rays and a few songs and TV shows I've purchased over the years. There's nothing to worry that much about.... I can buy 6x-8x as many FireTV Sticks as ONE AppleTV 4K for the same money. If they do the same thing, why bother with Apple anymore. I've got ONE AppleTV 4K for my home theater. I can get FireTV sticks for the rest of the house now.... But you go ahead and pay $199 per AppleTV 4K instead. :D

As someone that has had multiple Apple TV’s in the past, I wouldnt recommend getting one at this point. Unless you’re planning on playing a few games on your tv or something, just get a fire stick. I have one in the bedroom and it’s every bit as good as my Apple TV’s were And shockingly, Alexa is more useful than Siri

This is a tragic mistake. Why put your ecosystem on competitors’ inferior products... it’s the same mistake then Apple CEO Skulley made.

Strategically, it makes far more sense to allow top-in-class products like Apple Watch work with an Android phone than to put Apple software on inferior hardware.

Also, Apple is missing the opportunity to seize the markets by not having its own TV at a much higher price point. And utilize AppleTV to capture those who want to use Samsung TVs and etc.Whatever happened to Steve’s epiphany about TVs and the experience?

I don’t understand taking a company that’s all about innovation and forgetting how to innovate. They cannot figure out how to differentiate anything right now. Just riding on Steve, Jon, and Scott’s hard work, Tim needs to go...

He’s a good person, but a terrible CEO for Apple at this point in time. The executive team has let all the talent go so they can reap as much stock as they can using the same old hardware. The software is starting to suck as bad as old Microsoft software - the new Microsoft is doing great.

I want to see some new innovators come out and lead the company to new heights. Make Apple Great Again.

I completely disagree. One of the reasons Netflix does so well is because it’s available on nearly all platforms. I can move between rooms in my house and watch Netflix no matter if it’s my cable box, by Xbox, my ATV, or my FireStick. I wasn’t really considering to buy an ATV+ subscription since I assumed it was limited to only my Apple devices. For a full TV experience, that’s only one option. But now I can watch it on any of my TVs. Makes the decision easy.

An Apple Watch should work with an Android device? No never, it's the eco system of Apple devices working perfectly together, this has nothing to do with streaming services which Apple is providing on other platforms or devices. Steve Jobs died 8 years ago, you cannot tell what Steve would do today. Streaming services in general get much more important today, it wasn’t so in 2011, so you cannot say what Steve would have done today. Time moves on and also the strategy of Apple may change, even if Steve would be alive. Should Apple stuck in the year 2011 forever to keep Steve’s strategy or philosophy alive? Then progress would never happen and this would never be in the sense of Steve.

I prefer Apple TV's slick interface vs Fire Stick's. Also Fire stick's on screen ad's annoy me. Apple doesn't do that. I can also stream all my personal videos which reside on my iMac through the Apple TV. Can't do that with Fire Stick.

Wow !
It just works !! On my Fire TV 4 K and on my Fire TV (2nd) Generation.
A dream come true !!
BTW: We use the Fire TV Sticks in the kitchen and in the bathroom. The main TV has of course an Apple TV 4 K...
😊😊😊

Great. I was looking for a device to watch my buyed and rent iTunes movies and shows on my second TV. Ordered the Fire TV Stick now and it works well. Of course the Apple TV is better but the Fire TV Stick is cheaper and is a stick, not a box

I don't now if the AppleTV libraries on a FireTV Stick will support Atmos or not as of yet (it does it differently than some with PCM + Matte layer Atmos or something like that). I do know that both AppleTV movies from iTunes and Netflix give me Atmos in my home theater even without a 4K projector (plus I got it for free for trying out DirecTV Now for 3 months; you can't beat free... :D )

You need to scan a code and not enter a password so I do not know what you talking about. I tested it and they don't allow you to use a password to sign in if you have an apple account.

Per this article, it appears it does. And for about a fourth the price

“Amazon on Wednesday announced a new model of its Fire TV Stick media streamer. The Fire TV Stick 4K, as it's called, includes support for 4K streaming, Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos surround sound, as well as faster internals and an overhauled remote.”

As someone that has had both, I actually enjoy the UI of the fire stick more. Alexa feels more useful and works well with other Alexa devices. I picked up an echo dot at Best Buy just because it was on sale totally intending to return it if it sucked but it blew me away how much better than my HomePod it ended up being. The Alexa app, the “skills” you get, how useful Alexa is for everything else including just reading my kindle books to me, everything. Venturing out of apples walled garden paid off for me

I don’t agree in regards to Fire TV or Fire Tick being inferior. I have all 3 devices and a 4K Roku and I consistent reach for the Fire remotes. They're faster And have a better interface (in my opinion) and the remotes are much better than the Apple TV remote. That thing is terrible.

I also find it hilarious that you can't buy anything through the Apple TV app. Looks like Apple feels the same way about paying a percentage of in app purchases to others. It's effin side splittingly hilarious 🤣

Personally I don’t mind about buying stuff through the app. Like the other night when I bought John wick 3 I just pulled out my phone, bought it with Face ID and it appeared in my what’s next on my fire stick. Super easy and it means I don’t have to give amazon my Apple password

Yeah I agree but what I find hilarious is that so many posters here bashed Netflix and Spotify for the same exact thing. Made it sound like it was such a bad user experience and how they were going to quit those apps and eff them etc...🤗
