With all those apps on third party devices they maybe don't plan to bring out an updated Apple TV device.
Buying one now seems like a bad deal because the current generation is already more than 3 years old and the price didn't really drop since the release.
new TV's have it integrated into the TV. I think it's days are numbered. with all the apps TV's come with there is almost no need for a separate add on box.

I for one don't like the PS menu system, in fact I feel like Sony's menu layout in general is just not on par with competition. I find myself avoiding their cameras as well for the same reason. It feels like I am getting bored/tired quickly shuffling for information. o_O

I’m slightly embarrassed, but what does the Apple TV app do?

I have 2 PS4 units and 4 Apple TV’s gen 4 in the house

If you have bought any shows / movies through iTunes, it will now play them on a TV while using the Apple TV app.

The time of having to get an Apple TV in order to play iTunes shows / movies is over.

I use the Roku so it's great for me :).

My Apple TV is pretty much just a glorified Airplay box. I only use it to view photos/videos from my phone on my tv.

I take it, the consoles do not support Airplay?

..there is when people own older tvs which do not support Apple TV.

I have a 4K Samsung tv (2017) which doesn't support it so for me, the only way to get my Apple content to the tv is with a physical Apple TV box.

yes, but at some point you're going to buy a new TV along with everyone else who has an older TV. Nice 4K TV's are dirt cheap and as people replace older TV's there won't be a need for a separate box

Yep. You can watch iTunes content you purchased. I was also able to rent and buy movies via the app on Xbox.

interesting...I wonder if Sony takes a 30% cut, especially that Sony themselves sells media on the Playstation platform.

Well, story has it that some TV manufacturers like Samsung collect information of your TV usage, including snapshots of your TV screen. Some people prefer to keep their TVs offline.

The AppleTV+ app is a streaming service with original content and access to other streaming services on a unified platform. Kind of like Amazon Prime, but Apple’s version.

This is great news. Got a 12 month trial with the new iPhone 12 but my LG OLED 4K is too antiquated for the native app, as it's a 2018 model. (If you can believe that). This is far better than forking out for another box or stick.

Just installed it works a treat.
Are you sure about that? I have an LG C8 and, while they took their time - the Apple TV app became available about a month or two back.

And its fantastic. I hate to use the phrase, but the UI is definitely snappier than any of the other apps on this TV.
