Can’t see any reason why the older boxes wouldn’t support it, it’s only a streaming app at the end of the day. I think really is just Apple trying to get it available on as many devices as possible like Netflix / Amazon more than Microsoft wanting it.
Remember that Microsoft has full control of the XBOX wall garden so Apple could want something but MS has to approve it. Like the Apple/Amazon and the Apple/Roku. We will see xCloud on iOS as part of this deal. Now will Google use the same tactic to get AppleTV+ on their new TV device and Stadia on iOS.

Fingers crossed it comes to Xbox One as I've got a 1-year Apple TV+ subscription (included with a recent iPad purchase) but nothing convenient to watch it on. My TV runs Android TV, which caters for every streaming app I need except for Apple TV+, so I'm not keen to buy an Apple TV just be able to use the free TV+ subscription.

I doubt I'll ditch my Apple TV hardware any time soon but I would love it if the Xbox Series X had HomeKit, Apple Music, and AirPlay 2 support as well. This could be very interesting.

Actually do not use my 4k Apple TV anymore, will probably flog it soon.

Both our Samsung TV's have the app built in and we have a Firestick in the Lounge anyway which has the App also.

My Wife likes to mirror content sometimes but even the Panasonic in the Lounge lets us do this and it seems to work well.

Unless I am missing something glaringly obvious, if I have the ability to mirror via the TV anyway and the Apple TV App is available on stuff I already have then surely I have no use for the 4K Apple TV?

Apple Music on Xbox would be amazing. Being forced to use Spotify on Xbox One/PS4 really sucked.

But Apple won't be able to stream movies and shows, unless the movies and tv shows are each available for download on the xbox store

It's clear you don't own an Xbox as the there has never been an Xbox Store. 360 had Xbox Marketplace and Xbox One has only had Microsoft Store.

I don't understand this new strategy. The Apple TV app does nothing to sell more apple devices. All it does is allow people to see the custom content apple has created - so more Apple TV memberships for 10 dollars a month.

When they put iTunes onto the PC it was to get people to buy more iPods to listen to the music they bought.

This doesn't bring people to the Mac, to iPhone, to Apple Watch, etc. This is a Tim Cook thing.

If anything this allows people to play the movies they bought on iTunes on all their devices - so essentially eliminating the pull to the ecosystem that Apple was known for. Unless this is a secret move that they are completing before laws become unfavorable for Apple's walls.
