I just purchased a used AppleTV off craigslist last night. The previous owner said he couldn't connect to wireless but figured it was an issue with his router..

I am having the same issue though. I attempted a factory restore, but it still wouldn't see my wireless router.

For the sake of checking that the device could actually connect to the internet I grabbed my WRT54G (running as a wireless bridge via tomato firmware) and hooked it up via ethernet and it worked just fine.

I checked to make sure my wireless isn't hidden and it is not and I don't believe interference to be the culprit as I put my WRT next to the appleTV and had no problems getting full signal strength.

I have been unable to find anything specifically addressing my issue online or on Apple's website.. is this as uncommon an occurrence as it seems?

I saw a guide on pulling the device apart and it appeared the wireless card was removable.. can I just find a replacement airport card and try it, or what are my options at this point as my wireless bridge needs to stay in my workshop so that I can continue to work on non-wireless computers and devices.

Call Apple. They should see what problems there are and if need by replace/repair it.

I am trying to avoid calling Apple. Every time I have talked with them about one of their products, the cost to repair is outside of what I consider reasonable. If I were to spend $150 on repair, then I may as well have purchased one new.

Worst case scenario I suppose I could pick up another old Linksys router and run it as a wireless bridge, but I'd rather spend the ~30 to make the Apple work as intended than spend it on a workaround if possible.

There is an airport card inside with two little snap on wire leads; if the previous owner tried opening it and messing with it, they may have come loose or something
