You can spin it any way you want to but people are OK spending money when there is a backlog of content. People are not going to spend money on Apple TV+ when there isn't a solid back catalog of content when their money could go some place that does. Don't worry though, Apple TV+ will be around forever even if they only have 100 subscribers because no way in hell will Apple admit it was a bad decision.

You can polish a turd all you want, but it's still a turd.

Okay. That's fine then too. You could get your point across better rather than assuming I really care about Apple TV+.

I hope Apple learned to not be cocky back in the 1980's.

...and somehow the 1980s still applies to today technology options? This service is a vanity project, which is part of another vanity project called Apple TV. Apple is making billions. If their waste was really out of control, this service would have been gone quite a while ago.

Netflix however, is becoming too bloated, Disney still lives too much of their back catalogue and are even more shy than Apple with regards to social documentaries. Apple is a good balance. In the future, in my opinion, Apple will have built an interesting back catalogue.

Surprisingly, Netflix has a decent array of foreign movies and series. I think if you were only focused on domestic content, then I can see how that would be the case. We watch Netflix pretty frequently, and we find the "bloated" content to be entertaining on a light level.

For Disney+, the elephant in the room is that there's Disney+, Star+, and Star. Domestically, it's just Disney+, but internationally the catalog is much broader. In some regions like Latin America, they have live sports.

AppleTV+'s content catalog is simply sparse. It looks like they are trying to create a new studio in Los Angeles and obtain content internationally, but it's to be seen how much of this actually pays off. It's quite difficult to ensure all "premium" content on the service is good which is why some believe Apple might (or will) run into issues down the road.

I don’t get why people think Ted Lasso is so great. It’s supposed to be a comedy, but it has more profanity than jokes. Groucho Marx could pack more jokes into two minutes Ted Lasso does in an entire episode. So, even if you think the average joke is better…

Some of the Ted Lasso plots are, in fact, quite dark, involving divorce, a soccer player killing a dog, etc. Yes, I know there’s such a thing as dark comedy, but that doesn’t seem to be what they’re trying for, either.

The only reason I’ve continued to subscribe to Apple TV+ is “Foundation”, which has been a long time coming and is, unfortunately, watered down for the TV audience. But Foundation is only 10 episodes, and then there will be a one-year gap until season 2.

Who are they rivaling? I don’t know any other streaming network with all original content.
Isn't Disney Plus all original content? I don't recall seeing anything on Disney Plus that's not from a Disney property (Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucas)

it depends on how you define original. Very little of it is original in the sense of “originating on our service”.

With its nanny, run-of-the-mill, politically correct content who is surprised by this. The only reason there is content at all is because Apple is spending the big bucks.

Me, I want explosive, edgy content that challenges the status quo.
What are you currently watching that's explosive, edgy content on other networks?

That’s cute. But apple has just one hit show. Much of the content is low quality like the rest of them.
What show? I cancelled by free trial after 2 episodes of TMS. Can you say boring.

Saw part of a ted
Lasso episode at a friends. Both of us were bored with it pretty quick n

 I defined original when I wrote "anything... from a Disney property (Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucas)"

This is a money-loser for Apple. Boring, woke, politically correct content. There's only room in the market for 2-3 streaming services. And one of them is an add-on (Prime.) They should have bought Netflix, but they idiotically did not

In this thread, a bunch of people who never watched anything on Apple TV+ complaining about the service and then telling a 2 trillion dollar company what they need to do to make money.

They do in the US, too. It’s called ESPN.

Cancelling my free year Apple TV+ subscription when it expires early 2022.

I still have yet to pay for ATV+. Had it free due to purchasing iPhone last year. I was going to cancel this year and received another year free via T-Mobile. My wife and I only watch Ted Lasso/Servant/The Morning Show, so once my free year is up, I'll probably cancel.

Netflix/Hulu/HBO Max/Disney+ are the essential streaming services in our household.

How can they possibly know what is going to happen between now and 5 years from now? A lot can happen in five years.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. My point was that when someone considers Disney+, they should consider the rest of the Disney streaming properties since Disney+ is just a subset of their streaming services collective.

US = Disney+/ESPN+/Hulu
Latin America = Disney+/Star+
The rest = Disney+ Star

I, for one, am really considering my Netflix subscription. Too much stuff and the quality is suffering. Documentaries are rushed, tv series are mostly done on a tight budget, and it shows. I have a daughter. Disney is interesting but very much an entertainment service, I mean that National Geographic content always brushes the surface but rarely goes beyond it. Disney content is interesting but mostly because of the back catalogue.
Finally cancelled Netflix. Sick and tired of them churning out great series that get cancelled after one or two seasons, stories unfinished. Erodes trust from creators and viewers alike. Stubbornly refusing to integrate with Apple TV. Just a garbage company.
