So tired of this "cable provider authentication" crap...
If they want cord cutting to take off they really need to end that requirement. I couldn't even watch the baseball game Sunday night because FS1 wanted a cable provider login.
Nice to see that they haven't forgotten the owners of the "old" Apple TV.
This is a nice addition, but long over due.
Authenticating the channels could be changed in some way to make it easier and quicker. It is also annoying that the channel has to be re-authenticated so often.
A lot of people support it, but I do not like the idea of a one log-in to authenticate all the channels unless it was optional.
Except in the UK, country of 60 million people, a company called Sky stops us from getting anything decent on Apple TV. There's no HBO, Cbs etc. Netflix is the best it has to offer, except for streaming from iTunes.
(Very annoyed).
It's a bit pointless to have that on your Apple TV when it sits next to your cable box, isn't it?
I think they should just have you sign in once and have the os apply it towards all channels that it can. It's beyond annoying and counter intuitive to constantly have to click on a new channel, log onto a web site, full out a user id and quick code, to then go into that one channel. Why not just one and done.
Like maybe, open Apple TV box. Log into iTunes with Apple ID. Sign into cable provider ID. Have the os apply that info towards all channels that will accept it. And there you go. Done.
Ok Apple, if you're reading... I'll sign with you guys for 120k a year for more common sense things i can iron out for you.
Nope. The more channels the Apple TV gets is the more it will finally be able to replace a cable box in your home. Think about it... How many cable boxes do you have and count how much per month you are paying your cable company for them. Now reduce that number by one and see how much you save over a year!
Makes sense now?
Has anyone read an explanation as to why this late 2015 AT does not support 4k? The "there is no content" explanation is less and less accurate everyday.
I still don't understand why we have to sign in with a cable login or subscribe (like CBS) for these channels that are already free. I suppose the on-demand part is a bonus, but if it's already free why do we have to do it?
I cut the cord years ago, but unfortunately in the two places I've lived (one apartment in Austin, one in LA), I just can't get OTA channels to work. Maybe it's the antennas I'm buying, but no channel comes in clean, so I was hoping that free streaming channels would one day be available.
I know this is off-topic, but does anyone have advice on getting OTA to work? Do I need an antenna that costs in the $100 range?
The NBC and CBS All Access apps are available for IOS.O.K. but this won't let me stream to my IOS devices will it?
They're a cable channel. Why wouldn't they want to make sure you're paying them?

Will Colbert be available on this new CBS without cable?
It eliminates the need to rent extra boxes from your cable provider. Say you have a TV in your living room, bedroom, and 2 kids rooms that would be 3 extra boxes at a minimum of $5.99 each a month. What exactly is the point if you need a cable account to watch? Wouldn't people just watch it on cable? I really hope that Apple is still working on agreements with them.
NFL needs to collapse under its own bloat. People really watch it?Apple needs to purchase the NFL. That will fix the live football on Apple TV issue for any game plus any game in the past.

Cable companies are one of the worst forms of service providers, IMHO. It's 2015. Time to embrace the notion that most are cutting the cord and are sick of paying for 200 channels they don't watch in order to get 6 they do watch.
We need disruption in this industry. A true a la carte service would be a game changer.
I agree completely. There has to be a better way. We just keep mentioning a la carte as if it's some sort of panacea. The idea of a la carte in it's present state is untenable. I can honestly say I don't know what the answer is, but a la carte ain't it.
This is a legit use case for this. Most cable companies charge a rental fee for their boxes. You could just rent one (or even zero) boxes and still save yourself money overall.I agree, there is no point in using these apps if you have to have a cable subscription other than if you have an AppleTV hooked up to a TV some place in your house that doesn't also have a cable/SAT box hooked up to it. This isn't "cord cutting" and being able to drop your cable/SAT provider. Psshhhh.
