Not on mine. In fact i'd say it's very responsive. On my main setup they control my receiver volume. Seems yours could be defective?
Agreed. I’d take it in to Apple. I’ve had mine control the tv and then the receiver and it’s been great.

I'm very excited for captive wifi on apple TV.. I always bring my AppleTV on trips with me when traveling alone and it is often a pain to get in touch with hotel's IT departments to give them the Mac Address..

as an aside, Does anyone know if the latest YouTube app of the latest AppleTV can play 120 Hz content?

The volume UP/DOWN and mute buttons lag.
Are you controlling via HDMI CEC (Auto HDMI in settings), probably that?

Try IR if you have line of sight to the device to control volume.

I have an older Pioneer Receiver and it was always laggy with HDMI, but fine with IR. My Yamaha is fine with HDMI

I’ve read elsewhere this is a good release. Fixed years-old bugs on black bar flicker video playback, for example.

anyone know if fixes library tab for large libraries?

This box is my favourite Apple device. Sure there can be the odd improvement, like Up Next being less dumb, but in the main it kicks crap out of other smart solutions.

Your TV gets limited to what, 12 months of updates? And the speed is night and day compared to my Roku stick (both network saturation and programme selection). What I didn’t expect was the insane improvement in picture quality on the same TV.

Long story short, glad this bitch company is still showing love to the product.

I tried for a while to ignore my AppleTV and only use them occasionally. Lately though, its been the main device used for streaming on our TVs due to app issues on the Samsung TVs. I. have two apps that sort of work but have issues because the model TV I have is not on the certified list. Mostly get a spinning circle then a black screen. The AppleTVs never have this issue so we have just started using them again full-time. As mentioned here too, its nice to have one remote with the same interface for all TVs in the house.
Consider yourself lucky. Since the first black puck AppleTV I think I've had every generation. I've had them in multiple houses/buildings, multiple routers/internet providers, and I often still get the spinning gear. In fact at home I often have to restart the AppleTV for any hope of decent performance on "movie night".

I both love and loath AppleTV.

Odd. I have had every version as well. Never experienced this issues unless loading my movie list. Apple doesn't like people with large libraries.

Totally agree. I don't need 100 apps for subcription services that I never use. I'd love to easily access my locally stored home videos on a network storage device (VLC works but the UI isn' great).

Homesharing is also pain when dealing with large photo libraries - neverstood why it's so slow/unstable on a wired network.

It's very pricey but Infuse has been great. It's pretty much taken over from my Plex server that I ran on my Synology. I use it on my Apple TV, iPad and Macs and they all sync via iCloud.

I want chapters on iOS!!

Why? Because I love buying concerts and iOS does not have any control, to skip a song. The first iPad had a hide page for chapters, I do not need that, but in a hidden menu or so… co‘mon apple!
Curious where you buy concerts from?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not "waiting" for anything
(we have many ATVs)

Simply discussing why I'd like the product and hopeful for it at some point

I'm good for a while, but I can't say I'd buy all ATVs again if doing it from scratch right now.
That's the type of decision and concern Apple has to be worried about moving forward as this all evolves.
I am not really sure what exclusive advantage does a stick offer over a traditional box.

Even powerful sticks need a power source.

Also a cheaper device would either be really slow or would require Apple to release a lighter TV OS that would require it's own apps like Watch OS. It means iOS apps won't be so easy to port.
