Upcoming Apple TV+ film "The Banker" was set to have its world premiere at the AFI Fest in Hollywood on Thursday, but its debut has been postponed by Apple, reports Deadline.

Apple is holding the show to investigate "recently uncovered and potentially damaging charges" surfaced by a family member of the late Bernard Garrett Sr, who the movie is based on.

In a statement, Apple said that "concerns" surrounding the film were brought to the company's attention, and its premiere has been delayed as Apple investigates.
We purchased The Banker earlier this year as we were moved by the film's entertaining and educational story about social change and financial literacy. Last week some concerns surrounding the film were brought to our attention. We, along with the filmmakers, need some time to look into these matters and determine the best next steps. In light of this, we are no longer premiering The Banker at AFI Fest.
"The Banker" is based on the true story of Bernard Garrett and Joe Morris, who devised a plan to help African Americans get access to real estate deals and bank loans during the 1960s.

The film stars Samuel L. Jackson as Joe Morris and Anthony Mackie as Bernard Garett, along with Nicholas Hoult and Nia Long.

Apple has already set a theatrical release date of December 6 for the movie, and it's not yet clear if it will still come out on that date. Following its theatrical debut, "The Banker" was set to come out on Apple TV+.

Update: Apple has delayed the theatrical release of "The Banker" and it's not yet clear if and when the movie will see a release.

So now Apple is playing "gate keeper" for what video content we can see and not see?
Their attempt to provide original content will be an epic failure.
Why? Because you take any movie/actors and someone somewhere will ALWAYS be offended.
And once you start rolling over to the demands of the rabble, you will never have any backbone to ever stand again.

Think Different!;)🤣

Did he get accused of being a child rapist, because I didn't read that anywhere.
I think it’s pretty obvious that the person was speculating as to how serious the accusation could be. In any case, whatever it is, the accusation is serious enough that AFI Fest did something “virtually unprecedented” in pulling the movie as its closing-night film, per the Deadline article linked in the story, pending more information.

They should have made a movie about Samuel L Jackson, Charles Barkley and Spike Lee driving around looking for an NCAA playoff game, those two minute commercials can be hilarious and they could turn it into anything really at that point. As George and Jerry said - a show about nothing.

I read these "concerns" -- and we are talking pedophilia and theft/plagiarism -- on a chan more than 3 months ago... Weird that it took them this long to spike the movie. If it has only been "recently" uncovered, as they state here, then they've sure had their head in the sand for a long, long time.

i don’t think you can accuse them of being a gatekeeper by not releasing their own movie. When they start restricting other media then you can make all the claims you want.

Sony pulled "The Interview" after the "Guardians of Peace" hacker group threatened to attack theaters.

TriStar reshot every single scene of the film "All the Money in the World" with Keven Spacey, replacing him with Christopher Plummer.

I'm sure there are other films that saw premieres or even full releases pulled for non-technical reasons.

Update:

Evidently a major Hollywood trade is preparing to release the allegations (whatever they may be) and they relate to Garrett Sr’s son, Bernard Garrett Jr., who is a consultant for the film and a part of the promotional effort.

Yeah, sounds like a sexual charge against someone associated with the movie, or possibly a late copyright fight.

And for those that think ATV+ is all nice and friendly, have you watched it? I'm sure many are offended by slicing heads off of a dozen people in one minute. I personally have enjoyed everything I've watched on it at this point.

why watch it when you can just form your opinion online?

According to Deadline....they state, "The reported allegations do not involve anyone depicted in the movie."

Separately Deadline has learned a family member has leveled some troubling allegations about Garrett Sr’s son, Bernard Garrett Jr. and shared them with at least one Hollywood trade paper which is planning a story.

Garrett Jr. has been among those participating in Q&As and promotional activities around the film and was also a consultant during production.

So it seems like it's related to the son (Garret Jr.) & not the subject of the movie (Garret Jr.)... but the son has been involved with promotion of the film.

These rumours have been floating around for sometime. Not sure of the veracity of them or not.
on the other hand this brouhaha certainly raises the profile of the flick if nothing else.
