This one sounds very much like they lifted a page from Stephen King with the isolation and undercurrents. Indeed fictional, since there is no island 40 miles off the coast of New England but several are about 30 miles: Matinicus (ME), Block (RI) and even Nantucket (MA). As many have stated, it would be nice to tie a story up after each season instead of incessantly plodding on.
