The show's got a good premise, and I enjoyed the first episode, so I'm willing to complete the first season before judging fully. But episode four was a mess.
I won't dip into spoiler territory, but the way the family gets out of that episode's challenging situation makes absolutely zero sense. I don't mean it couldn't make sense, just that it doesn't. The writing was incredibly weak. Characters seem to have a near-psychic sense of situations and settings they've never previously encountered, and they're able to influence other characters simply because they want to. Worse, one character completely changes direction not only without any realistic motivation, but despite near abject terror of what will happen if they do. Worst of all, that character's nigh-impossible choice was made despite the ACTUAL impossibility of accomplishing their goal . . . which they accomplish anyway, without the tiniest bit of challenge or consequence.
I want to like the show, but I'm not hopeful.
