Having an accelerometer in a television remote has been around for a while. The LG Smart TV (operating what is left of PalmOS) has this going back four years now. However, I'm sure Apple will market, promote and have the UI a lot better then this. Also, I'd love this to work on my Mac Mini!

I would usually agree as I tend to think the iPhone should be the remote for most things. However the Apple Tv controller is beatiful. I like the shape, it fits well in the hand and the texture feels good but more so i like the weight of the remote, it has a weight to it that is reassuring and gives a sense of quality.

I see why you would like it. But I also don't like the button layout. The complete circle can sometimes feel wonky and perhaps your thumb slips from pressing right and instead presses the center select button. I would have liked defined seperated buttons rather than the rocker circle button with the select dimpled into the center of it.

I've been curious to use my iPhone as a remote but the reviews are horrible and it's mainly my wife that complains and loses the remote. Ugh.

I was thinking more along the lines of "Left. LEFT. Left damn it. Not so much left! No I didn't say left! DAMN IT RIGHT you ****. Not FIGHT but RIGHT! Damn I said something wrong again. No I don't want to go to hen!"

I think using siri to ask about movies might be almost as infuriating as using siri to find me directions. After failing to understand what I am saying, especially if there is a name in the place I am trying to get, I feel ready to throw my phone out the window. Then I ask to go somewhere like home depot and think I am in luck that it actually understood the place as well as the name of the city the home depot I want is it. It then proceeds to direct me into another country to a home depot hours away...I live in Canada, I said the city (Saint Catharines) and it directs me to the home depot in buffalo new york...thanks siri, good job. It could be my fault though I mean I said Home Depot...when I just used the keyboard in maps to type in where to go it was under The Home Depot...

This article is about using the remote as a motion controlled gaming controller. But nice try.

Oh, I see...
I misread your post.
I though it said: "oh, they made a Wii ten years later. congrats", not "oh, I see they used a single concept from ten years ago in a brand new and mostly unrelated product, thanks"

I thought he was comparing the Apple TV to the Wii also. Not just the controller. I didn't get it either

Fine, yes. But absolutely no reason to still be selling hardware that old. It isn't like it is that much cheaper to make an A5 chip instead of an A8 chip. Also absolutely no reason to not have latest wifi hardware in a device intended for streaming video.
So really hardware is inexcusable. And especially so for Apple who's customers have the ability and desire to pay more for better hardware. If they want to keep selling the old hardware for $69 that is fine. But Apple should also make something in the $149 range for their customers. Apple should make the best streaming hardware they can make. They clearly aren't doing that with the current hardware.

I'm all for killing the production of the A5, since at this point it's hurting the company more than hurting. I was just pointing out that the software needs an overhaul and should be reflective of the more powerful A8. It's also good news that Apple will continue to sell the $69 version as they phase it out. I am a little afraid that the new Apple TV might be a tad too expensive.

I want to see Apple increase revenues from Mac and Apple TV sales!
