I'm surprised that Foundation has been received well, and that Apple is renewing it for a second season. I love all kinds of sci-fi, from high-concept like "Arrival" to pulpy like "The Expanse", but Foundation left me cold. It's pretty to look at, but that's about it.
The question is will Apple continue to renew it. The series is reported to need 8 seasons.

He is gender fluid, and spends his days contemplating fashion and how it manifests itself within the universe.

This is exactly right. The other actor in the pic, Jared Harris, plays a man named Hari Seldon, who is something of a Tim Gunn character, a constant critic and influencer around the latest in fashion trends. Lee Pace plays his muse. You can see in the background we have the model Demerzel sporting the latest in stainless steel dress ware, which was popular in the latter three centuries of the Galactic Enlightenment.

It's a phenomenal show. It took me a few episodes to get into it because i didn't know what was going on and I needed to put subtitles on for a good chunk of the Trantor stuff just because they use a varied vocabulary and some terms and place names that were new to me (or just very unfamiliar). It's really a remarkable show and I hope they go the distance and complete the show, how ever many years that will take.
One tremendously helpful tool was to listen to the official Apple Podcast about each episode after watching. The narrators did a great job boiling down the salient points of the show in an understandable way.

Jared Harris is a gem in anything he’s in so count me in for season 2!

Who am I kidding I was going to watch anyway as I really enjoy sci-fi shows these days and there are some good ones out there but I found this show especially interesting with how much time elapses between certain character plots.

The politics in the show is pretty cool too I mean imagine a time where there’s an actual empire spanning thousands of years and many galaxies and it’s all ruled by the same guy, who, thanks to incredible advances in technology is not only invincible to outside harm but has even cloned himself and there is three of himself at different stages of his life so that no matter what or where he will always be in power.

Crazy!

Great to hear news about this show! It’s quite possibly Apple TV’s crown jewel [to me, at least].

Got to watch it thanks to the free year I got with my 4th-gen iPad Air. I’m considering paying for an Apple TV sub just for this show.
I got three months free from Apple and now another year from T-Mobile. If you have a T-M Magenta account you likely can get a free year as well. But any current subscription must first be canceled. https://www.t-mobile.com/offers/apple-tv-plus-deal

The 1st season was mostly ?. The last 2 or 3 episodes became better. It think one producer for the show said they have 10 or 12 seasons to tell the story. This could be why the 1st season sucked at the beginning.

I agree. Looked pretty but I had absolutely no feeling for anything/anyone in the show.

That’s not really an endorsement of the show’s storytelling qualities…

I never read the books so I'm not disappointed by anything in the show. I am very much looking forward to S2!

except the Author isn’t one person like you claim

James S A Corey is a pen name for a collaboration of two authors
I stand 100% corrected. I was mistaken regarding the author of The Expanse. I thought that it was written by Orson Scott Card.

I really enjoyed the first season. I'm a fan of Asimov, and I know there are a lot of Asimov fans who are mad online about this loose adaptation. As its own thing though, this is a really good series.

Robyn Asimov was among the producers for the show, so that made me feel a little better about how loose the adaptation was. I mean, if his own family approves it, it's hard to get TOO angry it didn't follow the original books closely enough.

So, they‘re stuffing Bel Riose, Hober Mallow, and the Mule all into one season?

Maybe Goyer’s decided he‘s not going to get a third season? Or he just wants to get all that old musty Asimov stuff out of the way?

I definitely classify it as "sci-fi for the thinker", as opposed to high-action/excitement. But I'd put it on a similar level to the latest incarnation of "Dune" that came out in the theater. I really liked both, but can also see how both would cause many of my friends to just lose interest if I recommended they watch them.

Foundation started with a premise that's kind of tough to make a compelling story around; mathematician calculates that the known universe is going to come to an end in X number of hundred years so pitches the idea of government investing resources into a huge library of all collective knowledge, located far from most of civilization to keep it safe. But the real intrigue has to do with the hubris of leaders threatened by the suggestion their power won't continue much longer, and what takes place as a result.

They touch on a number of interesting "food for thought" ideas, like what happens when an AI synth is programmed to obey and serve its leaders, yet has found organized religion? What does it mean when the religion you believe is true tells you as a synth, you're "less than" humans because you lack a soul, required for reincarnation?

Any chance of Apple picking up season 7-9 of The Expanse? Now that would be exciting!
I'd *love* for this to happen! But I fear it's not to be, since they cut the show short over the sexual harassment claims against the actor who played Alex. (Supposedly, the writers felt it wasn't possible to tell the rest of the story without Alex as a part of it, but the whole team refused to work with him anymore. So they killed him off at the end of last season and wrapped it up as a short final season.) I know the "official line" is that this was all about budget limitations -- but do you really believe that? Why approve a partial final season of only 6 episodes but not the rest of them, after you have a wildly successful show?

Personally, I felt like although it could have had a worse ending under the circumstances? I think fans got short-changed, at least with them not trying to do a full 10 episode season. Some things just felt a bit rushed and some more explanation would have been nice about the planet Laconia and the protomolecule obviously getting out and taking over the local animal life.

Yes, I believe it was cancelled because of budget vs. eyeballs. It was an expensive series with all the effects and sets. Plus it was a good stopping point given what happens in book 7. It's just the show runner wanted 8-10 episodes to finish the arc and Amazon only wanted to give them 6. So I don't think was stopped due to the allegation against Anvar. They did an in depth investigation of his actions and didn't find any issues with anyone other than him. Alex was out after season 5 wrapped and they went back in to film the needed scenes. And it was before season 6 began filming.

I don't know if you've read the books. I didn't but I jumped into book 7and am now about 1/3 of the way it. Very enlightening and lots of good explanation about old Proto and Laconia and Duarte. They didn't really get into all that, from what I understand, in book 6 as they concentrated on finishing up the war with the Free Navy.

I agree Amazon got cheap for some reason and could have let them go at least 8 episodes to finish the series. Maybe one day they will go back and finish the remaining trilogy .
