I am reading the comments, are people finally starting to like the Apple TV+ service?

There is "dark lighting" now there is "Silo dark lighting". I guess this is "natural light is better", but I have lost interest (older iPad/Monitor -- do not have HDR -- and this goes beyond natural lighting re: being dark). Just... So Dark. When I watch Breaking Bad for the Nth time, I wonder at the beauty of the scenes. Not just the story, but the beauty of the scene. Impossible with modern shows/movies. I guess it is "more naturally artistic", but sorry, "I just do not get it". I often cannot see anything except some small feature highlighted in comp. Anyway... Flame away. NSC.
HDR videos are pretty much useless and very, very eye straining. I don’t really understand Apple’s push of those. Whenever I have a camera that supports 10 bit video mode, I have it disabled. On all my devices those videos behave strange and my eyes feel like they will start bleeding and even after I stop watching HDR content I get headache for like 15 minutes after. Something is genuinely wrong with the format, I had never had it with older modes like SDR, even on ancient CRT TVs

I just hope these shows dont fall apart like Lost with no real idea behind them other than hook the audience with mystery.
Lost was fun for its time, after all it was more than 20 years ago🙂 Definitely was pretty much predictable but nice to have fun watching.

And JJ truly nailed it with the directing and addition of his beloved visual style, something that I rarely see in some modern series

I haven’t watched Silo yet but I wish Apple would speed things up and release Severance S2 trailer. Such a great show!
Wait, but they did release the Severance Season 2 trailer, or at least a ‘Severance — Season 2 Date Announcement,’ and it’s coming out on January 17, 2025. Isn’t that good enough? Really looking forward to both Silo and Severance. Such great shows!

If HDR is done right, you don’t even notice it. It should just feel more lifelike. But nowadays, many filmmakers are trying to use it as a standout feature, and I agree—it just doesn’t work, even if you have a proper display or TV. It’s similar to frame rates; Peter Jackson tried 48fps with The Hobbit, and it lost its cinematic feel.

But don’t mistake 10-bit video mode for HDR. 10-bit video is crucial for LOG or RAW footage because it preserves more data for editing and color grading. You can always choose to master the video in SDR or HDR. Plus, HDR can look the same as SDR, but it gives you the ability to preserve more detail in shadows and make highlights touch brighter—without blinding you when watching in a dark room.

I hope they don't drag the show on like Hugh dragged the book series on. Nine books was very rough and the series degraded after the original 5 book original series concluded.

The original Wool/Shift/Dust trilogy tells a complete story in 3 books - as far as I can tell the other books aren't even written by the same author - looks like the publishers are trying to build it into a franchise.

So far the show is sticking reasonably (by TV show standards*) to the book, so as long as Apple completes the original story first it should be OK (the last book may be divisive...)

Hopefully, Apple will take the Netflix approach of 3 seasons and done rather than "let's pad out one novel to 3 seasons until people lose interest" (*cough* American Gods *cough*).

(* unlike, say, Foundation which I think would be better if they stopped trying to weave in call-outs to the book!)

It’s because the books weren’t full books, it was originally short stories that turned into books. That’s why the first three episodes or so of season 1 feel a bit disjointed, especially the pilot, they were standalone stories.

You’re right though, there are 3 books in total. The first and third book are fantastic. The second one is a prequel and is pretty dull.

Read all of the books and I’m not super thrilled with all of the fluff that was added to the show. Could’ve made these seasons 6 episodes and stuck to the core storylines and it would’ve been a much more streamlined experience. Undecided if I’ll tune in to the new season.

I give it to Apple, Severance, Slow Horse and Silo are pretty amazing watches... I am sure there may be others, but they are not fooling around.

That is a concern for Severence. Servant was 100 guilty of that from the start, but that’s just that guy’s MO isn’t it.

Silo is in no danger of that since the story is all laid out in the books.

The original Wool books was 5 short novella's told in an episodic manner. Then came "First Shift", "Second Shift", "Third Shift", and finally "Dust". It got away from the episodic books and went on too long for my taste.

I'm cool with the show, but it sorta takes away from the experience because I already know how it will end.

Hopefully Sand will get a shot at a TV adaptation.

I did the same thing as mcled53, and I'm glad I read (listened on Audible) all the books. The show does approach the books slightly different but things that happened in season 1, I found in later books, so I think they will tie it all together in the end. I'm super excited for season 2. I may go back a watch season 1 again and maybe even listen to all the books before I watch it.
I read the book after Season 1 finished. My recollection is season 1 ends about half way thru Book 1. AND I would say the series followed the book more than most adaptations (~90%). For example Foundation followed the books only ~10% (My opinion).

For all Silo Nuts like me, here is a philosophical question:

What would have happened, - If the famous candy dispenser (PEZ) would have been this one below???
