Either way, it sucks to have a service that expects viewers to binge all the episodes, so naturally you'd expect more, not less, much less the EXTREMELY LONG wait time between seasons. They're already super short, and look at The Orville...It's been a year already since season 2 ended and no sign at all of a new one.

Now only ten episodes of Apple TV+ shows and a year to wait for more, which is likely to be a short ten again. It's not enough content! At least try releasing them in packs, like say 3 seasons at a time if they're going to be so short.

This is why I hardly try to watch anything 'new' since the wait time between seasons always annoyed the pure heck out of me. I often stick to shows from the 50s-80s and some bits from the 90s and that's it. The shows there are done and gone. No waiting, and plenty of binge-worthy content.

Once my trial ends I will likely cancel if they don't get with the program. Back to the glory days of Lucy, Laverne and Shirley, OG Lost in Space, Green Acres and Mister Ed.

Seriously, imagine how Seinfeld would have been received had there been a two year wait for season 2 and subsequent seasons? People grow tired of waiting, even more so with each new generation.

Maybe For All Mankind was intended to only be 10 episodes long then? Leave it ending at a cliffhanger. Lord knows that's how Soprano's ended.

The only people making 25 episode seasons nowadays are network and cable TV studios. Which are largely forgettable. Makes sense though since they have to fill the airwaves with something. The sweet spot has been set at 10-15 by Netflix, HBO, Amazon, and Hulu. Apple is following that trend.

I disagree I’ve just binge watched Dickinson and it is brilliant, easily one of my favourite TV shows so far. I’m really glad that they have renewed it for a second series :)

If you like waiting till October...for ten more episodes you'll be done with in a day or two...sigh

10 episodes is insufficient given the huge wait between seasons (notice it's not just a season wait either, no 'fall' season, just one ten episode season PER YEAR)

It's like they took the idea right out of British TV's playbook, only 10 instead of 6. 15 would be better. But all the 'original' stuff seems locked to 10. Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Apple, etc.

People tend to forget one side benefit of 20+ episode seasons--to flesh out characters more. It's not just 'filler' material. Look at Star Trek: The Next Generation. Or even M*A*S*H. Babylon 5, too.

Just 10 episodes per year?! Oh no! What a travesty. I wonder how fans of movie franchises feel. Avatar fans are on their second decade of waiting.

This is regarding TV shows, not movies here. There should be different expectations, obviously.

Also, why is it a good thing for Apple to be following trends when it used to brag about 'thinking different' and not conforming? When did that change?

quality over quantity, Dickinson was my personal favourite show, it’s brilliant. Apple are adding more and more TV shows to the mix.

So far I have enjoyed everything I have seen except Truth Be Told which, in my opinion, is actually quite bad. But it’s an unrealistic expectation that I would like every show, so I’m happy with that.

I hate the 'quality over quantity' argument. This isn't as simple as 'Sega does what NintenDON'T' here. There are plenty of iconic and popular shows that got 21-26 episode seasons...I'll name a few:

1. Growing Pains
2. Cheers
3. Frasier
4. Seinfeld
5. Star Trek (as well as The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and so on)
6. Babylon 5
7. Farscape
8. The Golden Girls
9. M*A*S*H
10. I Love Lucy

Your argument does not compute

Times, and the industry, have changed. Today's top-billing shows are pretty much Hollywood production values. No one in 2020 is going to commit the time, money and resources into producing 25-episode mega-seasons year in, year out. Moreover, there probably aren't enough hours in the day to even do it. In addition, shows whose seasons comprised of dozens of episodes tended to be more like rolling sitcoms or soap operas than dramas with a short story to tell.

There are now also so many top shows around these days that I don't even know how someone would find the time to watch them all concurrently at 25 episodes a piece. Blimey you'd think some people roll out of bed straight onto Netflix and stay there until the sun goes down o_O

And there are plenty of great shows that didn’t have 21-26 episode seasons. Just because they can doesn't mean they should! The amount of work that goes into writing and planning story arch‘s is immense. Not every series needs a 26 episode season.
There are plenty of series (especially here in the U.K ) that have done really well just off the back of 6-10 episode series.

The Office (the one created by Ricky Gervais)
Fawlty Towers
Little Britain
This Country
Not Going Out
One Foot in The Grave

There are more but I think I’ve made my point.

Well we all know the UK is famous for super short seasons. I don't agree though. And to me the Office was boring. It was like, well, being at work. While I mentioned Seinfeld above, I am aware it's popular but I never found it very interesting. I have a dry sense of humor but Jerry's was even more dry than the Sahara Desert.

Just today I binged season 4 of Designing Women and am currently near episode 26. You'd be surprised how long one can sit and watch an interesting or funny show. When plenty of episodes are there, You don't have to find another in short order. I like the immersion of long seasons. I'm old fashioned that way.

As for "no one in 2020 is doing long seasons' argument, well, obviously shows such as Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon or even a kid's show such as Arthur didn't get the memo.

I'd be all for a 26 episode season of For All Mankind. It's that interesting. There's no other sci fi other than See and it's not that good. Even if it were, I'd be done in a day or two and be back to waiting all year for the next season to start. The Morning Show is possibly interesting but given all the reviews saying it's for left wing social justice types I think I'll pass.

This is quite the hill to die on.

Most of the shows you list are 23 minutes long. For All Mankind has a run time of 616 minutes. A 26 episode season of Frasier is still shorter than a season of For All Mankind.

If you'd like to watch the episodes in 20 minute increments, you are welcome to do so to make it feel longer.

If not, you can always keep rewatching MASH.

Oh I do rewatch M*A*S*H. It's a great show. Along with many others. I prefer classic series anyway.

When I saw the previews (when you select the TV app on an ATV4K) I was under the impression it was trying to promote some conspiracy theory that the Russians landed first and our attempt was 'faked'. So I ignored it for awhile. Then I started watching it and it's not that at all. It's an interesting 'alternate timeline' style story and I only wish it were longer.

The amount of blatant, in your face, Social Justice & feminist preaching in apple tv+ shows is absolutely insane. I honestly cannot believe the writers actually went ahead and did this on their own. This has to be a directive from apple instructing them every 3 lines you have to include something along these lines...

I mean take For All Mankind for example. You are literally bombarded with feminist preaching in almost half the scenes in this show. And it is so blatant, so poorly executed, I mean why??

and before some smart folk come out calling me you know what, i despise preaching of any kind in movies and shows. Its is a sign of crappy writing. The writers should respect the audience’s intelligence. You do not have to have your female character screaming “oh look i am a strong woman i am going to show these one dimensional sexist male characters how great i am!”, in order to have a strong female character. You can let your script and the character’s actions speak for themselves. Take for example Three Billboards outside Ebing Missouri movie’s main female protagonist. Now that is a badass female character, extremely well scripted and acted. No need for worthless and constant preaching. Just great script that makes you come to that conclusion on your own.

For all Mankind makes you think it was written for 12 year olds... my God what a load of BS...
