Why can't Apple announce these types of things at it's events?

For Apple's stock NOT to fall, all Tim needed to do was put up a slide with pictures of watches, tvs, laptops and iPads and say 'more exciting products to announce in October.'

Very, very silly that Tim can't do this.

He is still doubling down on secrecy, leaving it to rumors websites to unveil their new products...

Just sold my Apple TV 2 this week for $249 on eBay. Idiots will pay a mint for those things since they can be jailbroken. Perfectly happy taking that money and buying a 3.

Wonder if they'd do something where the game is installed on the Apple TV and an app installed on your handheld iOS device turns it into a customizable control surface tailored to suit the games commands. This'd let the game run fast on the ATV, and minimal data streaming over wifi run light & fast as well.

...sort of like what they should & will inevitably have to do with laptops. ...run OSX on the vertical screen and an ipad on the horizontal.

If they ever give us the ability to download apps onto the :apple:TV then they will need to give us the option to buy different configurations -- 8gig, 16gig, etc. (someone will want to download every game in the world and want config of 256gig I am sure :) ). I have heard no rumors of this, but I cannot see them giving us the download option in the current environment where we have no choice on memory -- which means we will be limited to how many apps we can download.

Also, wifi for the handheld is a non starter. To avoid lag, it will need to be a direct protocol like bluthooth (probably something better).

I have no use for an Apple TV until it receives Amazon VOD. Ill stick to a much better Roku product for now, Airplay is completely useless to me and doesn't entice me even in the slightest.

different strokes -- i have no interest in amazon's offerings and a strong interest in the itunes ecosystem. i love airplay because we use it all the time in my house to beam content to the screen.

get back to us when youre CEO of one of the most valuable companies in the history of the planet. im sure youll be able to explain everything then.

This is a ridiculous short-coming that they are finally fixing.

so ridiculous that weve never even noticed it.

Forget an actual television I would be really happy if they eventually morphed the AppleTV box into one of those portable pico projectors so I could watch my iTunes content anywhere without having to buy several televisions. If they make it a really good picture that would sell really well as a second or third TV without costing a fortune. Now that would revolutionise TV IMHO.

After using a friend's Roku, I couldn't disagree more. Roku interface is like something straight out of the 90's in comparison to ATV.

Netflix is $8/mo and has better content deals than Amazon. Yeah, ok, "you already have Prime". Well if you want to force that square peg into every round hole than you can expect some disappointment when it doesn't work everyone Netflix does.

Also, AirPlay is amazing. ;)

Love my AppleTVs. I use it all the time. Keep bringing the updates.

The one thing I'd really love is for Apple to somehow strike a deal with the NFL and get Sunday Ticket. Long shot but man that would be great.

Upgrading Apple TV is tedious

Everyone has encountered the frustration of a 'Just One Moment' upgrade taking hours on Apple TV. Especially when you want to watch something NOW. I don't know whether disconnecting Apple TV and connecting to your Mac as a 'device' (as would be the case with an iPhone or iPod Touch) would speed the process along. But I groan every time I sense that Apple TV wants to upgrade itself because I know I might as well do my laundry...twice...in the time it takes to complete the process.

The stock will fall no matter what. Many people make lots of money on Apple stock by shorting it right before a keynote address.

I wish they would integrate an OTA pass through so I didn't have to jump from one source to another on my TV . I live in a large city where I get tons of free OTA so that I dont have to pay for cable, there has to be a way to integrate the HD OTA broadcasting .

I have both Netflix and Amazon, as does Roku. aTV doesn't and I don't need/want AirPlay regardless of how "amazing" you think it is.

Im still using a Roku 1 XDs with no issues. Netflix sucks (I keep it for my daughter) and I get Amazon Prime free and I use it far more than Netflix, so yes I would like Amazon VOD on aTV before I pick one up. But I do want an aTV.

Hmmm... I honestly cannot say that's ever happened to me or anyone I know whom I've turned on to the ATV. The updates always do their thing in a matter of minutes, not hours.

Two things that come to mind:

A) Why the hell was this not given any sort of mention - even if it was a throwaway line at the end "we'll also be releasing an update to the Apple TV software" - ANYTHING. Piss poor Apple.

B) I really hope the iOS 7 mockups shown are not accurate. As far as I'm concirned things like the Apple TV must have a dark theme. Screen burn is a much bigger issue on TV's than small devices, and the iOS7 theme would very quickly damage cheap TV sets if left on for a while.

without a SDK and Apps, Apple TV is still dead in the water

It most definitely is not. While an app store/SDK would certainly be welcome, my Apple TV gets quite a bit of use as it is. My family probably watches 50 - 75% of our viewing content on the Apple TV (with TiVo representing the remaining 25%).

If it were, the Wii U's main feature wouldn't work.

Glassed Silver:mac

Except [as I understand it], the Wii U uses a proprietary 5.2GHz 802.11n variant and the GamePad (assuming that's what you're referring to) communicates directly the main console, so there's a lot less overhead (and way more performance potential) between the two devices.

I love the Apple TV.

When I'm at home and cooking or reading, I'll just have it play some music or music videos. Then if I want to watch something, I'll play a movie through Movies, or Netflix.

It would be great if they would add Amazon movies as well since I'm a Prime member.

What I'd like to see is who's calling on my iPhone (when tethered), ability to get local TV stations (external antenna) at the very least, NFL app to watch football, ability to hide apps without parental controls, and an app store to play games.

I'm sure connecting via BT would work fine as well.
