iOS does have spotlight. It just won't search third-party apps. If that functionality isn't present in the app, blame the developer, not Apple.

But is there an API for developers to expose their content documents to the system-wide spotlight search? I'd love to be able to find my GoodReader docs from spotlight.

This is the one piece of Apple hardware that I wish I didn't spend $ on... it's actually been quite useless. The worst $99 I ever spent.

Wow, complain much? For $99, it's a nifty little device. What are your main complaints? Be specific, rather than throwing around your general non-specific complaints to create negativity and make your world appear closer to how you feel.

Yes.

How's this working for UK users nowadays

I have a bit of regret getting mine like a few others on here due to it mainly having US content

Is there much available now for people in the UK (non iTunes), apart from Netflix?

it's probably the piece of Apple hardware I use the most.

Yes.

I have right to complain since it was my own $99 I spent on it and not yours.

As I stated... I think the interface is clunky and slow. Also Apple would be wise to open up the device to app developers just like iPhone and iPad.
I steam my music to the device often and I'm bewildered as to why Apple won't allow Visualizer to play on the TV when music is playing just like in iTunes.

Before you jump all over me keep in mind that these are my own views... as I'm a free thinker I'm entitled to voice my opinion.

Pretty much still Netflix and iTunes for content, although Netflix has improved massively since I first subscribed. Its better for TV than for films but still worth £6 per month. I hardly watch live TV these days - its either Netflix or iPlayer.

Thanks, nice to see iPlayer on there, might need to connect mine back up and give it a try

I usually use Netflix/Lovefilm most of the time, but occasionally use BlinkBox with there 99p Monday rental offers

you are most def. right. you can complain all you want but i think more than anything, people wanted to understand your reasons for not liking the device.

it's not for everyone, but i do love it for Hulu plus, netflix, nba league pass and airplay from an iOS device and notebook. I mainly utilize it for WATCH espn via airplay from my ipad. =)

Date/Time Setting Bug

Has anyone here experienced the bug where Apple TV won't start up, because it can't set the Date and Time? It only affects people with certain routers. My neighbor's AppleTV is plagued by this bug, with a Cisco/Linksys router, but when I bring it over to my place, it works fine with my Apple Time Capsule / Airport router. I'm wondering if this update fixes the problem, although I've been hoping that for the last couple of updates. The problem didn't start until 6.0 was released. Anyone?

Thank you for your opinions.

I agree that the music app could be a lot better with a visualizer. I've been wanting one of those too.

I don't think that the interface is slow, because it needs to contact the internet for most everything it does. It's not abnormally slow for me. I click something like 'Movies' and it takes like 5 seconds to come up with the screen filled with pictures. It's not any slower than surfing the internet to me. The only thing that slows occasionally is Netflix during peak 8pm to 10pm hours. The menus might take up to 10 seconds to come up, but I understand it's the internet, and it takes a little bit of time.

And yes, I think Apple TV should be opened to developers as well. But this will happen sometime.

Right now, it's still a great device for me, because there aren't any better options for ME.

We had our Apple TV occasionally 'losing' the network years ago. We solved this by using a static ip address instead of the Apple TV getting a dynamic address from the router. (The problem was that the Apple TV got a 'lease' of the IP address for like 30 days, and on the 31st day it couldn't get on with that same IP address until the Apple TV was rebooted).

So sad, too bad. I personally use it to view about 75% of everything I see on my TV. Movies, Podcasts, YouTube, etc. are never ending sources of entertainment. It's the best $99 I ever spent.

Sorry - was unclear in what I typed - I get iPlayer from my HD box not on ATV

I am a bit sick of people complaining that the Apple TV doesn't do something it was never designed to do - for me it is a little, cheap piece of perfection - music, TV, movies all available at a touch of the finger on my TV & AirPlay just puts the icing on the cake. All my Apple content (plus BBC iPlayer and other UK stuff if you know how - no not JB). I gave two and am seriously considering another two at least. May wait for update.
If you want Roku or WDTV go complain on their forums - tried them both and they suck big time.

I sure hope the new Hulu app includes closed captions. Hulu has closed captions on the iPad app but not on the ATV app. I prefer to watch with CC. Anyway, updating ATV now and we shall see. Uh-oh. ""Hulu Plus is unavailable. Please try again later." WTF????

Could not agree with you more. Thanks for saying it so well.
