It seems that Netflix correctly recognizes the episodes I watch on the Apple TV on their website now. Before, anything I watched would show 0 of X minutes on their website and it always annoyed me since the Xbox, iOS, and PS3 versions all worked right. I'm happy that this is finally fixed.

iOS does have spotlight. It just won't search third-party apps. If that functionality isn't present in the app, blame the developer, not Apple.

Now wait a sec - it'll search media, but not documents. I just looked for a Pages document, based on the document name (let alone the contents) and it didn't find it.

Also, in looking through the Spotlight options, there's no option for application data, except for certain data like notes, events, mail, reminders, messages, and the like. As noted above, it's not possible to even search Apple's own iWork app documents.

This is the one piece of Apple hardware that I wish I didn't spend $ on... it's actually been quite useless. The worst $99 I ever spent.

Been the best I have spent, so much so I bought another. :)

I have a Mac Mini with a 12TB Raid array with all my DVDs ripped to it (LONG JOB), so I now have about 1500 episodes of TV , and about 500 movies available when ever we want. Every new DVD we get now is ripped then stored in a cupboard. Most of the time we buy them 2nd hand for $3 a pop so its not as expensive as you think to do this and its certainly cheaper the hiring or buying new.

What I would love is for the TV episodes to be hierarchal , i.e. so at the level of TV "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" shows once, you go into it then Series 1, series2...etc etc. It does this in iTunes, just not in the AppleTV.
Given the number of complete TV series I have it makes this a bit of a pain is the butt.

And of course we can also stream them to the laptops and iPad if needed, but we also use the AppleTVs for showing our photos to friends and families after trips.

Now update it with Apps so we can get the TWC(Time Warner Cable) app and we'll be all set. Or at least let us Airplay TWC from our iPad/iPhones to our Apple TVs.

I'll return my other clunky cable box already. Really hate having to switch inputs on the TV from cablebox to ATV too if I want to Airplay media.

I think that the people who love the Apple TV are the cord-cutters who pay $0 a month on TV, and the people who think it's a waste of $99 are the people paying $150 a month for television.

Of course, if your cable/satellite tv gives you everything you need, you don't need this extra device. But it's not meant for those people.

Seems you aren't really aware of the apple tv functionality. What cable/satellite TV box does what an Apple TV does in terms of connectivity to other devices, Netflix, Hulu, etc? I pay for cable for live TV (sports) and Apple TV for everything else I need in my living room.... Eg, music, movies, photos, etc.

Is there a way to hide/block my neighbors Apple TV?!

My neighbor has Apple TV and I don't want to have it as an option listed on any of my devices.

I am always worried I will accidentally AirPlay something to his Apple TV.

Is there a way to hide/block his ATV on my devices?!

I thought there never was an ATV3 JB from them.

there isn't, but part of the latest jb could be used on the aTV + something new someone could find and they could be able to jailbreak it more easily; now not even that.

Will wait to see what musclenerd has to say regarding doing the update or not.

Audio didn't play because the update changed the way it read the files. Needed the tracks to be separated somehow.
Long thread here on the forum.
That was a change that caused files that 2 audio tracks selected as default not to play. I believe it was an intentional change and not a "problem", except for those who were unaware of what they were doing and selected AAC stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 to be selected during the remuxing process. So I don't think you will ever see that "problem" solved as the aTV plays files correctly.

I thought you only see the ones in your wireless network... Are you sharing the same wifi connection with your neighbor? Or do you really see any around you regardless?

What I was trying to say was that people who pay $150 a month for cable or satellite TV already have hundreds of channels, so they have most of what Hulu offers. And, they can get HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc. to get all the movies, so they don't need Netflix as much.

Music and Photos are the main reason behind Apple TV if you have cable or satellite. And if you don't do those much, then Apple TV is not for you.

How's this working for UK users nowadays

I have a bit of regret getting mine like a few others on here due to it mainly having US content

Is there much available now for people in the UK (non iTunes), apart from Netflix?
My parents have 2 and love them. They only use them for getting iTunes content onto the TV though, so listening to their music collection through the amp and speakers in the lounge and study, or watching their ripped DVD collection.

I agree though, it definitely needs iPlayer, 4oD, ITV player etc for the UK audience. My parents have Virgin, so they have a Tivo box, this has on demand TV, so I don't know if they, or anyone else, would turn to the Apple TV instead of these set top boxes for on demand. Can't hurt to have the choice though!

I have both a Roku and an ATV3. The Roku is very slow and clunky. It is so slow I've often clicked on the show I wanted to watch, but it loads a different show instead because the screen graphics hadn't updated yet. Scrolling is tediously slow. It does, however, support Amazon Prime.

The ATV is very fast and slick. It doesn't support Amazone Prime, but it has Airplay which pretty much makes up for it. I use that a lot for Spotify app and History Channel app. Of course it would be nice to run those apps directly on the ATV itself.

Airplay is not nearly as great as it could be. There is a ton of lag. Gaming is pretty much impossible due to the huge lag. And yes, my ATV is hooked up via gigabit Ethernet, not wi-fi.

Did the recently watched menu item disappear from Netflix for anyone else?

Are we sure this is Apple being a d*** about it... Amazon may not want you to either.

If by Prime you mean Amazon Instant Videos using your Prime account it is available on the Roku. I also have the App on my Sony TV.

Roku 2HD and 3 also stream in 1080p.

Do you have Roku 2HD or 3? I've got both and they are extremely fast and huge amount of content as well as 1080p streaming.
If you are talking about original Roku for 49.99 US I don't think you're making a fair comparison.

The 5.2 update removed the 'TV' from my ATV, but this update fixes those problems. Happy again.

Still waiting for volume control though.

The update seems to speed up the little box. Been looking for a replacement for the ATV as I wish apple would put iOS and pull the content. This way, I could put my collection anywhere on my network. Plus not having to run itunes would be nice. Still can't find anything as good as the ATV. Just wish the NFL network would be on it. If that happens, then I can cut the cord.

I find the interface slow and cumbersome ... it feels like I'm using WebTV (do you remember that?), especially when it comes to typing. I feel like it would be great if the interface was more gesture. It would also be nice to have apps.

Doesn't feel slow to me at all. And compared to my 2012 LG LED smart TV's OS, which is very clunky in response, Apple TV iOS is buttery smooth.

Thank you for your opinions.

I agree that the music app could be a lot better with a visualizer. I've been wanting one of those too.

I don't think that the interface is slow, because it needs to contact the internet for most everything it does. It's not abnormally slow for me. I click something like 'Movies' and it takes like 5 seconds to come up with the screen filled with pictures. It's not any slower than surfing the internet to me. The only thing that slows occasionally is Netflix during peak 8pm to 10pm hours. The menus might take up to 10 seconds to come up, but I understand it's the internet, and it takes a little bit of time.

And yes, I think Apple TV should be opened to developers as well. But this will happen sometime.

Right now, it's still a great device for me, because there aren't any better options for ME.

wasn't meant to come off 'troll'ish' if it did... I think I might be slightly frustrated with Apple and the issues I've been having at the moment.
