    4. Accessing network resources (via AFP or SMB) enabled by default - so I can play stuff I have on my NAS upstairs without having to hack the heck out of my AppleTV.

Wouldn't it be easier to just leave a computer with iTunes running somewhere on your network? Even a cheap, used mac mini would do the trick. Just seems easier than "having to hack the heck out of my AppleTV."

    Anyway, my feature request.

    - Clear up interface glitches
    - Ratings, lyrics (provide a use for the up and down buttons on the Now Playing screen!)
    - Widgets

    • The ability to buy, not just rent movies from the Apple TV interface.
    • The ability to subscribe to and download podcasts direct from Apple TV.
    • Slideshow that doesn't crop pictures.
    • More prominent "new releases" (not "just added") and .99c movie section.
    • More liberal restrictions on rentals (transfer from computer to Apple TV, keep for 5 days).
    • The ability to stream .vob files!

I'm also a fan of direct NAS access and categorization of movies by genre.

I hope they add a function that remembers wireless network settings (e.g. network, password and etc.), much like on OS X and iPhone.

Liberate the potential, become anotehr innovation!

Most of the features in the list below are available, but separately (Like the features of the iPhone were). What about, again putting all together!

    1. Blue Ray and DVD burner
    2. live TV scheduler and recorder with online access to a TV guide like ForMac does with Titan TV.
    3. Stackable and seemless to the Time Machine so I can get backed up movies, video and music directly without having to having my PC on.
    4. iPod/iPhone products built in cradle. So I can see all their contents directly in my TV. Again with out the PC on. I use my iPod as a backup iTunes.
    5. ability to see other internet content: AOL videos, YouTube, AtomFilms, etc. Not only the competition is catching up, but I am sure advertisers would pay pretty money to apple for this feature.
    6. Control with iPod Touch
    7. Games, games, games. maybe associate with Nintendo Wii.... hey it could happen, why reinvent the wheal?. or become an online game devise.
    8. some easier way to show business presentations, like the ones in Power point, Keynote, or just show docs like spread sheets.

Please point me in the direction of a cheap, used Mac mini, I'm talking less than $500 here.

    C2D and superdrive please ;)

My NAS makes the media available to everyone in the house (including my linux systems or the odd visiting guest that doesn't want to install iTunes). The ability is there, I've gotten it working following directions from awkwardtv. It's just a matter of Apple enabling it by default.

More fluid and greater response when interacting with menus via the remote.

Remove restriction for requiring a Mac/PC. iTunes application on the :apple:TV.

Apple TV Take 2 does not require an associated computer.

    (1) Chapter Marker Selection Menu
    (2) Faster Menu's
    (3) Subtitle Support
    (4) The Memory of Streaming Content (Music Videos and TV Shows) does not happen anymore. The Videos and Shows starts from the beginning every time and does not remember the place.

I agree with a lot of the points made but I'd already be happy if they made it faster. Mine is dog slow with 10,000+ songs and around a 100 TV shows.

With 37,700 songs, I have to stream my music. It requires my Mac Pro with iTunes running to facilitate this capability.

I would love to add another Mac Mini to my collection and use it in the media room. They just need to make it interface friendly (HDMI or Component, Digital Opitical Port) just like Apple TV. By the way I love the ATV and will be buying another one for the kids room.

    1. Add HD movies to iTunes
    2. Add the ability to buy HD movies on ATV and sync back to iTunes.
