With 37,700 songs, I have to stream my music. It requires my Mac Pro with iTunes running to facilitate this capability.
Ah. But that is not what you wrote. I guess you are another vote for streaming directly from a NAS drive.
Does anyone know what the technical barriers are? I assume that the DAP protocols that a NAS would use to advertise its content are missing features that iTunes requires. And I would guess that the protocols are not consistent from NAS to NAS. Obviously, Apple isn't going to make AppleTV work with "some" NAS drives (unless it's one that they sell). It's just not their style. No reason that they couldn't make it work with Time Capsule though.
tv was first announced they labeled it the "TiVo killer". With that build up it was sort of disappointing when it was released. One has to wonder if they had a scheduler/recorder in mind originally but couldn't implement it. I think it has something to do with cable cards.
