Apple TV Take 2.1 New Features Wishlist

With 37,700 songs, I have to stream my music. It requires my Mac Pro with iTunes running to facilitate this capability.

Ah. But that is not what you wrote. I guess you are another vote for streaming directly from a NAS drive.

Does anyone know what the technical barriers are? I assume that the DAP protocols that a NAS would use to advertise its content are missing features that iTunes requires. And I would guess that the protocols are not consistent from NAS to NAS. Obviously, Apple isn't going to make AppleTV work with "some" NAS drives (unless it's one that they sell). It's just not their style. No reason that they couldn't make it work with Time Capsule though.

2. live TV scheduler and recorder with online access to a TV guide like ForMac does with Titan TV.

I remember when tv was first announced they labeled it the "TiVo killer". With that build up it was sort of disappointing when it was released. One has to wonder if they had a scheduler/recorder in mind originally but couldn't implement it. I think it has something to do with cable cards.

And now with Blu-Ray can you imagine how popular tv would be if it did what it does now but added a Blu-Ray drive (for playing, not necessarily burning) AND a TiVo-like interface for scheduling and recording?

I hope they add a function that remembers wireless network settings (e.g. network, password and etc.), much like on OS X and iPhone.

I have an tv on order and should get it next week. This is troubling. It can't remember your wireless network settings?

I have had mine on since August of 2007 and have had to re-input my network settings only once.

I have upgraded it from 1.0 to 1.1 to 2.0, have rebooted it several times, and had it reboot itself several times, too.

My network is protected, and has changed from "g" Airport Express to "n" Airport Extreme. If I remember correctly, that was the only time I had to enter the login info again.

-Link music videos with songs so the video version plays in-place of the song
-Add an option to sort TV shows from 1st episode to last, instead of last to 1st.

As others have mentioned: add a buy option to all the movies. I only like renting new movies that I have never seen. For older movies that I already saw in the theater, I would rather buy them so I can watch them as often as I like.

Internet radio is already available. Just add the stream's URL to a playlist.

Not always.

You can stream it from your computer using AirTunes reliably. Playlists containing the stream are not supported, and are unreliable.

1. ability to add an external usb DVD player (would make this the ultimate media player for me)
2. Sort music by letter similar to how tv shows can be broken into sub-groups (I have 5500 songs and take a while to move through the list)
3. Reading from a shared iPhoto library without having to sync pictures

I currently do not have AppleTV. My only computer is a Macbook that I don't always have on nor does it have the hard drive capacity to store all my dvd's. I do have a Time Capsule. My ideal scenario would be to do the following:

1. Partition Time Capsule so that I could set up a partition that would contain only music and video content.
2. Stream content directly from Time Capsule to AppleTV without a computer running Itunes to make that happen.

If I could set it up like this I would buy an AppleTV right now.

Mine disconnects on a daily basis... kinda annoying to re-enter password information and all. I've also checked around the Apple support forums and it seems that several people are having this issue. Not sure what it is though....

When I wake up the apple tv from sleeping, it comes up with the message iTunes 7.6 required..its not connected to any users and if it was, all the computers in the house have 7.6

I just want to see a more stable Apple TV, I need to get my money's worth.

Well, I just got my aTV 2/3 weeks ago with Take 2.0 pre-loaded - so I can't comment on usage with 1.0/1.1. Also, using an Airport express as my main router.

I've changed the wireless channel numerous times and I've tried setting a manual IP address, but nothing seems to give.

I would love to add another Mac Mini to my collection and use it in the media room. They just need to make it interface friendly (HDMI or Component, Digital Opitical Port) just like Apple TV.

The only real difference between HDMI and DVI is that DVI only carries the video part of the signal (so you don't lose anything in terms of video quality using a DVI to HDMI cable). Since you mentioned component as one of the acceptable options I assume having separate connection for sound isn't a problem.
