I can't stand the auto collapsing information sections as you scroll. That drives me crazy.

Why? They only collapse when they're almost completely off the screen, and expand again automatically when in the area of focus.

Site fail

I can see at the very bottom, hidden under config summary, mention of the graphics card on the imac. However, I see no mention of it there for the MBP or Mac Mini, etc. It really is almost like they are trying to distract. I shouldn't have to scroll past the environment report to get graphic card info.

Ok, once I put up a Mac Pro from comparison, the graphic info showed up. However, if you just have something like a MBP, iMac, and a Mac Mini no graphic comparison will show up. I am sure they will fix this little bug in the new site. At least I hope they do.

LOL but the collapsable sections are actually really cool. They expand by themselves when you scroll! In other sites I've seen they mostly stay collapsed until someone clicks them.

Well that's a personal UI design choice...
Sometimes, I find that "auto-expand/collapse" sections are more annoying then useful when I simple move my mouse over without wanting to expand a particular section...

And what's up with "screwing" the window scrollbar function?
I guess I'll have to let it grow on me! ;)

That isn't how they work, they need a very definite click, it's just then when they're expanded, if you scroll them off screen, they collapse to save scroll length...

Now if they could just add a 'Buy now recently updated' or 'don't buy we're about to bump up the specs' like macrumors, that would be great :p

My bad... sorry...
But I still think they kind of mess with my window scrollbar! ;)

I genuinely (personal opinion) think it's incredibly well coded, the headers staying in place, sections collapsing as you've scrolled past them. I suspect it works better in safari than other browsers?

it works on the ipad as well. tehre is a whole lot of javascript in the source....but i don't know about html5 (also not familiar enough with the syntax changes if there are any)

I like this change, but this is what you get when people are trying to be on the forefront... while there is no real requirement to use HTML5 for it.

That's a little unfair as html5 is not yet a ratified standard and cheats are necessary for cross browser compatibility. HTML5 is going to be the standard coding language of the web as HTML 4 currently is, it's not black magic or the flicking of the switch, it's ongoing evolution. You can't create a web site without html code.

Frankly I quite like comparison shopping. DPreview.com is great for camera comparisons ... this is nice but it won't satisfy the fanbois.

Actually, they are genuine typos and incorrect coding practices, it's got nothing to do with using HTML5 prematurely.

but it works... (on all my testing browsers here)

However you compare them, they're still expensive.

However you compare Aston Martin's, they're still expensive. I don't see that as a criticism though, Apple is a luxury brand, not bargain basement...

Their online store is looking really ugly these days, well for Apple standards anyway. I hate the heavy Apple Store block top left and I think the three column layout is too restrictive for them now that their product rage has grown. There are some really ugly tabs on some of the pages too. I think they should redesign the store and make it look more like the iTunes store, at least in terms of layout.

Apple is not a luxury brand.

Yes, it is.

Their products are consistently priced higher and seen as more elite - they are a status brand, it is their place in the market. There are cheaper (often better) options available to Apple's products, but people buy them because of the brand.

Perhaps they only list a row if there's something different between the columns.

No they're not. Dell has series that match Apple in prices and features. Sony is more expensive (see the Vaio Z compared to Macbooks) and so is HP (see the Envy).

Only Apple fans think Apple offers any kind of luxury. They offer a Lexus to everyone else's Acura.
