Apple in July
"we hope to sell our millionth iPhone by the end of the quarter (September)"

Apple in September
"we have sold our millionth iPhone"

i recall apple being overzealous about the market for iPhone. i believe they originally stated they wanted to sell 10M US iPhones by the end of 2008... it wasn't going to happen since 1M sold in just one quarter, but with the "surprising" price cut, their goal is now more likely. their pricing was a marketing error... with all the hype, the original iPhone launch would have been MUCH stronger if they had priced their phones as they are priced now... apple missed out on it... it's unfortunate, but the error was fixed quickly so i'm certain they'll do just fine...

This one is obvious. It's being held in the UK.The invite says "Mum's no longer the word".

The iPhone comes to UK.Probably using 3g over the O network.

Like Steve Jobs AND Mrs. Harrison said The Beatles won't be available for download until next year.
The U.S. will see the 3g iPhone and The Beatles early next year.Apple's learned it's lesson on releasing new stuff too early in the U.S.

You're incorrect here. Apple said 10m worldwide, not US, in 2008.

Timezone

Guys,

come on!

Tuesday, September 18th at 10am.

WHAT TIME. This 10am doesn't say WHERE. It is UK time, GMT, what?

And it's obvious: it's or iPhone, or Beatles.
Didn't the beatles have a song about the mum? (isn't mum like queen in the UK?, could be mistaking, i'm not from the UK... just the country next to it :p).

Thats why

Speaking as an ex-pat Brit in Canada ...
I am really really, hoping that whatever the price, Steve has the guts and the class to announce it in Euros and not Pounds.

I love my native country, but to most of the rest of the world, the insistence on keeping Pounds, Rods, chains, etc. just makes England look like luddites and bumpkins.

20 years ago, who would have thought that Ireland would turn out to be the most sophisticated and modern member of the UK?
While the irony of that is indeed delicious, I'd like to see England walk out of the dark ages and join the rest of us.

That is why Canada deserves nothing, 'join the rest of us,' ha self satisfied wazzocks. By the way Ireland hasn't been part of the U.K. since the 1920s.

16Gb and 3G or apple aint getting any more of my hard earned cash...

*Crosses arms and pretends Apple cares what I do with my money*

But seriously though, what is the likely hood of adding 16GB of memory and 3G to the euro version only? The yanks would go mental! just look how they reacted to the whole iPhone discount thing!

In the UK and I'm sure Euro-land, phones come and go so fast that price cuts are rife. My K800 used to be £400 pay as you go (Prepay I think you call it), I can pick it up for less than £75 online now just a year on. Cut throat world.

What's Europe....

What the hell is Europe? You mean there is something east of North America? When did they put that there? I think someone is pulling a fast one. What's next are you going to tell us that there is something West of North America too!

Only joking.

But it would be cool is if Apple forces a partnership to exist with all of their iPhone telecom companies. You know, if you buy an iPhone in England and travel to the US your phone will automatically use the US partner (AT&T), but you will pay the same rates as if you were still in England!

That would be awesome!

Being from the Uk I am waiting for the:

"Huh, this isn't an announcement that will affect the American user so we don't care..."

I am one American who is very excited for all you Euro's across the pond. Bigger market makes for better products for all. I am also hoping that the T-mobile version is easier to crack for use in the US than the ATT version.

Now, a beetles announcement would also be a great event. I have loaded all my CD's in iTunes but having video content would really be nice.

Oh! Wow!! That's really awesome! They're announcing it on my 18th birthday! How cool! :D

*happy*

Might go down there and buy my birthday present :)

That should not be very hard to do at all since they already do that in Europe with a number of services.

Edge ....

Well all i can say is that in Holland there is no Edge network anymore , it's al 3G UMTS, and even that is going to be replaced within a year maybe to for ( i think it's called ) hsda or something like that, that has a speed of 1,8Mbps.
And my guess is that holland is not the only country in europe that does not have a EDGE network anymore.
People in the US could not be complaining about tjis ( in my opinion ) because over in the US the 3G networks arren;'t rolled out there yet so they won't be able top use it any way.

I hope , there will be some announcments about the rest of the EU and iphone aswell.

People forget that the reason the cell/mobile phone prices change so rapidly is because of the competition. However, does not feel that the iPhone has any real competition and that's true. It's the only phone available that is also an iPod. Apple's thinking in this market is not that different from there thinking in the PC market. People are willing to spend a little more for a product that they will enjoy using a year later.

I've talked to many iPhone users who have said two things to me:
1. They didn't care that Apple dropped the price of the iPhone two months after release, because they got to use it in that time period.
2. They weren't give up their iPhones for anything (granted many of these people were using Blackberry's).

My guess would be the iPhone released in the UK. I don't think it will be any new products or anything like that.

Here is the announcement :-

iPhone 8GB, EDGE network (2.5G) - price £269 (Available in late October in the UK)

iPhone 16GB, EDGE network (2.5G) - price - £339 (Available in late October in the UK, now in the USA)

Network operator will be O2

Prices for service per month :-

£14.99, £19.99 and £24.99 all with unlimited data, but differing voice and text quantities.

Just my guess !

Uhh I wish there were gonna be price plans that cheap...

Launch of the iPhone obviously, not exactly telling us anything new.
We know it's O2. Finally putting an end to the speculation really.
If anything, it'll be interesting if they insist on crippling us with EDGE, but 16Gb might compensate ;)
