I'm not worrying myself with this. I'll be picking up a mini sometime in late December, January, or February. Hell maybe even wait until they're on the refurbished list.

So the retina enabled iPad air will be ready to rock but not the retina mini because, um.... This is total bs.
The makers of the retina displays can make the big ones but not the small ones. Really? Who is buying the bullish**!

Could be different companies and different tech to make the display. A lot of factors might come into play. I'm not one to instantly think this is some evil Apple money making scheme.

i once thought apple company was the company with confidence...now they are unsure about their supplies...lame.

apple fans.

I call BS.

Do we really think a company as huge as Apple with all their resources would allow that to happen before Christmas?

It's clever advertising and ensures that people join those queues for a product that will be in plentiful supply believing that if they don;t get one there and then, they won't manage to get one under the tree this year.

Clever.

Well, based on the fact that it's happened to Apple dozens of times in the past, yeah, I do believe it.

But if you want to ignore history again, and again, and again, and again…well you go right ahead.

(And this includes the fingerprint scanner shortage that's holding up 5s phones at the moment, in case you don't like history.)

You do understand that the Mini screens are higher density displays, yes? (Both the Air and the Mini have the same resolution, you see, but one is smaller.)

And you do understand that this makes them harder to manufacture with lower yields, yes?

Of course you do. But then that makes your comment a little confusing since it sure acts like you didn't know these things.

Feel bad for retail employees...

I feel bad for Apple Retail employees, who, on 'Black Friday,' will be besieged by angry shoppers wanting one of these. I was a retail employee a few years ago and 'Black Friday,' while grueling, was an OK day...the time flew. But not when every other shopper is going to be angry with you.

I think it's pretty clear, two words:

Mini Mania :D

Haha!! :)

I'm betting on Apple releasing a date November 1st with the iPad Air launch.

I'm thinking a few days later, like the 4th. That way it's announcement won't mess with those getting a iPad air because not knowing the mini release date

----------

My guess Nov 22nd, after PS4 Nov 15th but before Black Friday of Nov 29th

Busy busy month! iPad air,COD ghosts,XBOX ONE,iPad mini,man of steel blu ray,PS4,eminem's new cd,battlefield 4.

Ehm, the iPad air has a 264 dpi display while the mini has a 326 dpi. That's a big difference.

Can you find a tablet with a screen bigger than 7" with equal or greater density than 326 dpi?

And let's not forget that the difference between a 7" 16:9 screen and a 7.9" 4:3 screen is much bigger than those diagonal measurement would imply. The iPad mini has a 35% bigger screen than the Nexus 7, which makes a lot of difference when it comes to mass produce LCD screens.

Well given the fact that there's still a 2-3 week waiting period for the 5S....I could see this being true. To this day you can't walk into a apple store a just pick up a 64gb gold iPhone 5S. A retina mini might have been the biggest want I've ever seen in these forums. However, I hope it's not true, but I could see it being sheer pandemonium.

NOVEMBER 22nd
After the PS4 Launch
Before Black Friday

Isn't that the same day as the XBOX ONE?

----------

Everyone uses their iPads for different things, which means the iPad Air and iPad Mini will appeal to different people for different reasons.

That said, I am always personally surprised by the popularity of the Mini over the full sized iPad, but I am clearly in the minority. It is hoped this will translate to shorter lines and better selections for the iPads Air on Friday.

I felt the same way until I bought one for my GF as a gift. Once I got to spend time with it (she loves it by the way) it's a lot more functional and portable... I love it. The size is perfect. I do like the bigger iPad around the house, but leaving the home I'll have the mini with me.

Such a beautiful hi-res display that's capable of incredible detail, and they're wasting it on THOSE icons... :p

I'll need to see both the air and mini in stores before I decide.

I'm leaning towards the mini since I have
an iPad 2 and the wife a 3, so the size would give us options for when we travel.

Had my hopes up. I thought the iPad Mini Retina was being released on November 1st. Gosh!

I'm thinking Apple did this on purpose, meet the customers desires for a retina mini but know they've got a tight supply. And when demand stays the same and supply is lowered.... $$

But remember guys the Retina iPad mini sucks so don't get one [so that I can].

This is due to poor management again. The iPad mini Retina is not going to be able to meet demand due to poor forecasting, specious sourcing, and over speculation in a newer product (iPad Air). The screens for the new Retina mini are going to be tough to produce in larger quantities. Most people that have a mini already are most likely waiting for a Retina version with more RAM and better processing. Apple should have numbers from their iPad 4 and iPad mini sales to forecast what demand should be. If the Retina mini wasn't going to be ready in November, why not just announce a January 2014 release with a November pre-order? Apple risks alienating and pissing off a lot of customers with short supply in November. At least with pre-orders, you can earn interest off of the cash and be able to predict a bit more accurately the demand for the product at least a month or two in advance so you can ramp up supply appropriately.

You do realize that one of these displays is old technology introduced in March 2012?

Not quite true: Both of these displays are new. But your point is well-taken anyway, as supplies of the Air display are apparently plentiful.

Not when Christmas buying season is in the mix. It's better to have a real product in the market, even if supplies are not there. Anyone who manages to get one avoids buying something else. Apple is simply making the most of a non-optimal situation. The problem is not of their making.

This is the one thing that bugs me about Apple, I'm still trying to get my hands on a Gold 5S and do you think I can find one, Virgin, Vodafone, Optus all out of them every colour and every size.

I can see the iPad Mini being the same, frustration when I just want to get my hands on one although I can't make my mind up about the iPad Air:rolleyes: First world problems I know so shouldn't complain

Oh but the conspiracy theories are so much sexier!

A lot of armchair CEO's on here today. I'm sure Tim Cook will be logging into MR any minute now and will appreciate all your wonderful suggestions on how to better run his $480 billion company.
