I’d like to know if I pair this with the new Mac studio but then on wfh days can I also plug in my MacBook Pro without unplugging the Mac studio and ‘switch sources’ so to speak. That would suit me just perfect.

$1599 is VERY high considering Samsung and Dell is planning to sell QD-OLED panel with >30" in size for around $1300
I've owned five 27" Dell monitors including a 4K 27" over the past eight years and not a single one of them hasn't had part failures either in the warranty period or immediately after it. Two of them died immediately Dell have serious QA issues as far as I'm concerned. The 4K I'm using ATM (Dell U2720Q Ultrasharp) has all sorts of problems with the HDMI and DP ports intermittently failing to work. A real PITA when you want to have more than one device connected to your monitor.

I am going to hazard a guess that you cannot as the Apple Studio Display only has one TB4 input and that is what is used to connect to the host computer.

I suppose if there is such a thing as a "Thunderbolt KVM" switch that might work.

No you can't.

The answer is normally KVM switchers, but I can't see one for sale that uses USB-C ports, in a quick google check. Only the usual USB-3 and HDMI ports. Also under TB3/4 monitors need to be at the end of a chain, so I can't see how even with a TB Hub you could do this.

Great, where can I buy this QD-OLED panel that is >30" in size for $1300 today? And is it 500+ nits brightness? What about 218 PPI - that's also important to me!

Can anyone who is disappointed about the lack of ProMotion/120Hz point out to any graphics card capable of outputting 5K at 120Hz. No current Mac does it (Mac Studio stops at 60Hz too), and I haven't seen any Windows card being able to do it.
Yeah, and there is a reason for that: the data/video cables currently don’t exist to output 5K/120.

In my opinion, this Display is a big FAIL with absence of ProMotion 120hz refresh rate. I use a 4K 120hz monitor and believe me the smoothness it brings gets a smile on my face everytime I use it. There’s no going back to 60hz outdated screens now.

I would’ve definitely preferred 120/119.88hz for this.
but yea nothing available yet.
For that kind much bandwidth you would need DisplayPort 2.0

Which I read should be coming soon.
I’m guessing this will come with the next gen Pro Display XDR. Which is way out of my budget :(

People keep bringing up 5k resolution and I think this is a bit of a red herring. For a 27" monitor at 4k, the minimum viewing distance is 21". Most desks are 24"-30" deep with the majority being closer to 30". 4k is plenty of resolution to not be able to see the pixels on a 27" monitor on a desk. The 5k is really kind of wasted on that size which is probably why the resolution never took off. Also, the fact that it is so hard to find comparable monitors (with regard to resolution) is because no one makes them presumably because there is no market for them.
This!

I have a 27” iMac at home and a high quality 27” 4K display at work. I have 20/20 vision and there is very little difference between them besides different scaling in macOS. In fact I think the color and contrast are better on my monitor at work. Maybe if I had both sitting next to each other I could nitpick and notice some resolution difference, but sitting 24” back or more, they are close enough to not be bothered one way or the other.

The price is awful, here in Canada It's over double the price of a 32 inch LG Ultrafine display for the the price of this 27 inch height adjustable monitor.

Which is not really a feature as much as it is a limitation.
Except that button controls on monitors are usually pretty clunky. The LG UltraFine was sold as a monitor with deep integration with macOS. In theory, Microsoft could have worked with LG (or any other display maker) to integrate better controls within Windows 10/11.

I'm kinda disappointed...I wanted this exact display but in a 32" size. I have a 27" iMac Pro and it doesn't feel like I would get the value for spending that much money for essentially the same size/quality monitor. I think Apple should have offered the 32" to get people like me to upgrade. And I cannot even remotely justify the XDR display.

Absolutely, I frankly can't tell much of a difference from my Mateview 4k+ Ultra-HD display vs a 5k, it is extremely crips and that 4:3 ?

Oh yeah, the screen can be height adjusted and costs 1/3 of the price

Studio Display, which is ONLY 27" is almost 3 times the price of LG UltraFine 32" here in Sweden.
Hard pass for me.

So because you don't have a choice anymore, it makes total sense for Apple to charge just -$100 for the screen alone?
Plus the updated camera and speakers, and Center Stage and Hey Siri support.

Isn't the LG UltraFine 32" only a 4K display?
Yes, but I will be fine with that as far as I've experienced and what I have heard from others. I can even buy 2 of those instead of one Apple's Studio Display.
Rather put the money into the Mac Studio.

could Be worse priced, but you can get better third party monitors that don't lock you into using their webcam, mic, and speakers for a lot less money. Might make sense for a single primary monitor, but for a secondary one? No way.

and if it's like the screen in the new mbp, you can't even color calibrate it.

It should have buttons.
