Vesa mounts are much more versatile. If I could buy all my monitors without a stand I would. That's nuts.
Basically, this monitor starts at $1,999. Nobody buys a non-height adjustable monitor these days.

Yeah, I think so. At least, it has a USB-C port in the back…Nice. I ordered the nano display, so it doesn't arrive until April. Do you also have a Thunderbolt-equipped PC to see if it works (at least as a display), or just a Mac?
Apparently not. The mounts are built in and NOT interchangeable according to Apple's website. I'd go with the VESA. It has the most flexibility. Can you get the stand and Vesa mount?
native macOS support ??? what is that ? genuine questionNo. Doesn't need one.
People who until today were buying LG UltraFine 5Ks (at $1300) because they wanted native macOS support (even if buggy) and a display with twice the PPI of a QHD or 4K panel.
There are no buttons or built-in controls. All display adjustments are directly through the Mac.native macOS support ??? what is that ? genuine question
Incredibly underwhelming monitor. Another repackaged LG 5K with a good webcam and the same trash 1,000 contrast ratio. I would've paid $2-3K for a monitor in between this and the XDR.
This display is really underwhelming as it's basically an old edge-lit IPS display with poor black levels and still 60Hz. I'd be willing to pay 3k for a 32“ Mini-LED/OLED with 120Hz. Face ID would be neat. I don't need 1000 nits sustained full screen brightness and super accurate colors which makes the Pro Display XDR so expensive but some up to date display tech and >27“ would have been nice. Couldn't care less about the speakers but for sure people will be happy about them.
At sub-4K resolution (3440x1440) with no webcam (much less a 12MP one) and no speakers and optimized for video games, not professional production work.
Mind you, I have the Alienware on order, but it's going to be my gaming monitor on my Alienware gaming PC.
I will still use my iMac 5K for my work.

I have been waiting for delivery of the LG 5K 27” Ultrafine monitor. Just canceled the order and ordered the Apple Visual Studio which looks much better. Probably made by LG given the specifcation.
Apple today unveiled the 27-inch 5K "Studio Display" external monitor, alongside the new, high-end Mac Studio desktop computer.

The Studio Display features an all-screen design with narrow borders in a slim, all-aluminium enclosure like the 24-inch iMac. The display can be tiled up to 30 degrees thanks to its built-in stand.
To customize the display, customers can choose a more versatile, height-adjustable stand with a counterbalancing arm for an additional $400, or opt for a VESA mount adapter option, and there is also the option of nano-texture glass for an additional $300.
The screen itself features a 5K retina resolution with over 14.7M pixels. It also has an anti-reflective coating, up to 600 nits of brightness, P3 wide color, support for over one billion colors, and True Tone.
The Studio Display also contains the A13 Bionic chip to support its camera and audio system. It features a 12MP Ultra Wide front camera like the iPad, with Center Stage for the first time on the Mac.
With a high-fidelity six-speaker setup, the display contains four force-cancelling woofers that minimize distortion and two high-performance tweeters, featuring support for Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. The Studio Display also includes a studio-quality three-mic array that is optimized for calls and voice recordings.
The rear of the Studio Display features three USB-C ports and a Thunderbolt port to connect peripherals. The display can deliver 96W of power to a notebook, and can fast charge the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Up to three Studio Displays can connect to a single MacBook Pro.
The Studio Display starts at $1,599. Alongside the Mac Studio, the Studio Display is available to order today and orders will begin to arrive on March 18.

Ummm...do you mean Apple Studio Display?I have been waiting for delivery of the LG 5K 27” Ultrafine monitor. Just canceled the order and ordered the Apple Visual Studio which looks much better. Probably made by LG given the specifcation.
How come its missing the ugly holes in the back? I thought that was necessary to keep it cool from heating?
how is a display optimized for videogaming? I know its optimized for creative work with correct colour reproduction and such but whats videogame optimization?

It's not officially supported. However, the LG UltraFine 5K can work with a Windows PC, though you need to install third party software to adjust the brightness, etc.does this mean you can't use it on a non-mac OS because is missing the buttons?
Thunderbolt allows you to daisy chain so it will only use one port.Only 1 TB port is kind of a bummer since that means you'll have to use a dock or 2 TB cables to your Macbook for a dual Studio Display setup.
Not that I think the new Apple display is a particularly good value, but are there really that many people cross-shopping 42" monitors and 27" ones? That's the difference between my iMac and my TV, and my iMac is already on the large side of comfortable for my desk space and visual field. You'd have to have a really deep desk to keep it at a similar visual PPI.It has no full array local dimming, only 600 nits peak brightness and no 120hz?
For the same price you can soon purchase a 42 inch LG C2 OLED…
It's not a gaming monitor. It doesn't need 120-144hz refresh rates (which would require a LOT of bandwidth as it has almost twice as many pixels as the 16" MacBook Pro).My god this display sucks for that price tag and specs in 2022.
