Ridiculous and why does it cost £400 for an extra 16GB memoryFrom £2149 in UK. Insane pricing!

That doesn't matter for 98+% of people. Yes, that percent is made up but there are relatively few people in the world who would care or notice.$599 vs $799 Mac mini, same specs but one 256 (one NAND) and other 512 (two NAND). ugh. same this as M2 air situation but worse since same exact CPU

Exactly. And if you do notice the performance difference, you probably want at least 512 Gigs anyway.
Yes, the trade-in values are really bad. At various times in the past they've been close enough to selling second-hand to make trading in worth it but Apple easily knocked off hundreds of dollars on trade in values. That's part of their fighting inflation and margins. Keep product prices the same or lower (at least in the U.S.) but reduce trade-in values.lol the M1 MacBook Pro trade in values are abysmal. $1235 for what was the $3499 2021 model. Most of you know though not to trade but to sell.
Nice little bump, mini might be worth a look but my M1 pro is still far from utilised for my needs to look at replacing it any time soon. Interesting that they are just adding cores for performance than massively beefing up single core performance.
If I’m not mistaken, according to the tech specs, the new MacBook Pro’s both get an extra hour of movie playback. But does it also run hotter with higher power drain like the M2 vs M1 for this 20% extra performance?
They are at the limit of what they can do with 5nm. Once the M3 series ships with 3nm it won’t run as hot. It is still a lot better than what they could have done with Intel or AMD.I love the m1 because it’s performant and the laptops never get hot.
I got an m2 air and it got noticeably hot, fairly quickly too. I immediately returned it and am happy with my m1 pro to this day.
What scares me here is how hot an m2 max will get? If these are getting hot what is the point of Apple silicon?
I normally keep my hardware around for a few years 5-7 before its too slow or old for myself but they often go to family members. Unless Apple make the macOS larger and more demanding these computers should be good for a long time. At least until the storage fails as it cant be replaced.I wonder what that will do to peoples' upgrade cycles. that the M-silicon is so good, that one will wait longer before feeling like getting a new laptop or desktop
whereas Intel CPU's always offered notable benefits one gen over the next, but still lacked this or that wishing for just a bit more.
RotW is Apple's bi*ch to keep prices attractively affordable in their home territory. From £2149 in UK. Insane pricing!
They like to make the pricing like a ladder so you look at adding the RAM and it takes you up towards the next model/price bracket, so you think, 'hey, I'll just get that one'.Ridiculous and why does it cost £400 for an extra 16GB memory
Hmm, I remember Intel of the 2010s with no notable benefits from one generation to the next... and 14nm+++++.whereas Intel CPU's always offered notable benefits one gen over the next, but still lacked this or that wishing for just a bit more.

We'll have to see what Apple's "up to 20%" claim translates to.
