Almost identical to the previous gen ipad air, but the air has more storage.

What was the video editing app used On the iPad almost at the very end of iPad Air announcement today around the 1:01 mark? Definitely not iMovie unless it’s getting a major upgrade.

Seems like a great deal. Finally time to replace my iPad 3 I think. The air is nice and all but I don't really need power. I just want something I feel more comfortable carrying around to consume media than a $1,400 MBA.

Now announce the ARM Mac Mini so i can fully convert to iPad + Mini

Lol .. yes, it might, possibly, perhaps be time to upgrade from an iPad 3 :)

I think the update is fine, but I would have liked to see a bump to the base storage from 32GB to 64GB. Otherwise, this is still one of the best deals in tech. As a secondary device for folks with laptops as their main driver, this is still a great choice for reading and annotating PDFs, taking notes, light productivity, and Media consumption. It also gives you a second screen to use with your MacBook.

Keep in mind that earlier this year, a vulnerability was discovered in devices with A11 or below, so don’t be surprised if by the end of this year, every single Apple device has at least an A12 or better.
On top of this, that would mean that all of the devices would be on the 7 nm process, except for the new iPad Air and iPhones which will be already on the 5 nm process.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see an Apple TV with an A12X or A12Z. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Apple decided to update the Homepod with a very dumbed down A12, just to make sure that everything is on the 7 nm process or newer, and to make sure that vulnerability is in none of their current products

Is this basically the 7th gen model but with an A12 instead of an A10 ?, is that the only difference ?.

Those are some mighty performance claims but too bad nothing to make use of it since lack of Fortnite, Retroarch, etc. Nothing to tax the 7th gen either so really no reason to upgrade.

Had an original iPad mini for years....hardly ever used it, maybe because is very sluggish. But this iPad at this price is extremely tempting. 👍😋

Coming from a third generation, this is a bump for a 299 device like every year before it, not sure what you're looking for other than faster at that price point. The one question is will this base ipad support Apple Pencil 2, I wasn't paying attention in the keynote. The new Air is really where it is at, been waiting forever for this bump to upgrade.
The iPad will almost certainly not support the Pencil 2. It takes a different, more expensive, screen to do that. The new iPad Air 4 is awesome. My iPad Air 3 is jealous.

Wish they'd upgraded the base amount to 64gb.

Anybody have thoughts in real-world use how much faster this will be than the 7th gen? We just got my son a new 7th gen iPad for his birthday. He upgraded from an iPad Mini 2 so it is blazingly fast vs. what he was using. We are still in the Amazon 30 day return window so I'm debating returning it to get the new one.

If it was my device I would do it without thought to get the newer one but it is a lot of hassle for my son and I don't know if he would ever care about the difference. He mainly uses the iPad for basic things like Youtube and Facetime.
Just for the extended iPadOS support and better battery life (A12 consumes less power) I think it is worth it. From the A10 to the A11 there was a big jump in performance, A11 brought the first Apple designed GPU, second generation power management and the lithography went from 14nm to just 10nm The A12 improves this jump by going to 7nm process and a much better neural engine (A10 doesn’t have any NE).

I would definitely explain to my son a new and much powerful iPad has come out, and ask him if he wants it instead of the one you bought him. I can guess his answer, plus, the neural engine may help the device to work better in future OS updates.

This is the iPad that should have been released two years ago. Going from an A10 to an A12 chip is a huge boost in performance and severely limits the useful life of the previous 9.7 and 10.2 iPad.

Is it STILL not a laminated display? Apple, that's just stingy AF.

well, I guess that means it’ll be much cheaper to fix. No need to replace the LCD if you only cracked the glass. I see that as a plus.

however, what I find pathetic is the entry 32GB capacity. That hasn’t been enough for many years

I‘m assuming they’re using that and true tone to differentiate itself from the Air line.

EDU Does NOT want a lamiante display. Apple is not being stingy they are making a device that is easy for EDU to repair. That is based on our feedback we made in person at Apple Headquarters. Before you run your mouths spouting, fake news, hate and discontent you might want think a bit harder as to why things are done they way they are. FYI: There is more than "greed" in decision making.

Damn I recently bough the iPad 7th gen a month ago should i return it and just pay extra to get the 8th gen??. I bought my 7th gen ipad for 279.

The dumb thing about this particular iPad is it still has a pitiful 32GB storage! 64GB should have been the new base model.

I HAD ordered an iPad 7th generation but it hadn't shipped or been charged to my card yet so I was able to cancel that order and get the new iPAd. It says expect delivery between October 2nd and October 6th.

This is the cheapest iPad, with a decent standard bump up.
Want more? Buy the Air or Pro.

I think he's suggesting that he doesn't want to be raped so much.
Not that he doesn't have options to be raped more.
Incase that was confusing..
