They made it reasonable to purchase maxed out to 64 GB ram, so upgradable ram is pointless.
This is the mid tiered CPU Ram combo. Now we wait for the Top tiered system.
Looking forward to real world benches with music recording systems. With 8TB full of samples and a fast external for audio files its looking like quite a screaming machine. I don't care about the notch its in the taskbar

why ports are more important than incredible performance by new chips?
because bad UI/UX ruins whatever effort you put into performance. remember butterfly keyboard with noisy clunky keys?
I am not against new chips but now, we have a thick old design chassis with notch and slim bazel which artificially turns into thicker bazel in full screen mode to give user homogenous rectangular shaped 13" display in a 14" laptop!... this is called bad user experience. I much prefer to go with macbook air eventhough with less performance because of thinner and lighter design. Don't forget that previous macbook pro was similar in design.
I bet in few years again they get back to no-notch display same as what happened for butterfly keyboard, ports, and touch bar!!!
Well, I confess that as a user am a bit upset and annoyed with the way we support Apple but they don't even pay attention to what users want in return. I am personally locked into Apple ecosystem and have an old iPhone slowed down by updates and new iPhones don't have underscreen fingerprint that I got used to it. Why? competitors showed it's not impossible! (no I don't want iPhone SE, I want iPhone 13/14 with underscreen fingerprint same as extremely cheap android phones!)
The whole point is that Apple is abusing users by locking them into ecosystem and behaving in stingy way to add small small features available in other brands making user experience much more pleasant.
Apple today is far away from Steve's Apple!!!

This MacBook Pro looks incredible. 64 GB of unified memory is insane for a laptop. Even includes HDMI, MagSafe and an SD card slot!

I’m currently using the new M1 iMac as my main computer and it is so much faster than my previous Intel iMac

Once I start going back to traveling, I’m going to need a MacBook Pro so I’m definitely planning on getting one by next fall or whenever there is another update to the MBP
Insane? You could buy 128GB memory laptops a few years ago already. There are a few professions where you do need laptops with plenty of memory. Even I do need it every now and then. So I'm glad Apple managed at least 64GB now.

Realistically my dream machine would be a 16" MBP with huge battery life and decent specs (16M/M1..Pro?) that I could dock at the office to a box that'd increase the memory to 64M and contain a M1Max or two for faster operation. I need some oomph on the go but the battery life is more important. When I'm at the office I do need a lot more. If something like that ever appeared I might be happy. And I know it costs an arm and a leg but as it's for work, I don't care. It pays itself back by allowing me to make money and stay sane.

THE NOTCH, AGAIN !!!!

OMG, please stop making ugly products !!!

Such an ugly piece of hardware.

Face ID must be the worst tech to come in a decade.
You'd rather waste all that space on a huge bezel? The camera needs to be there. Not because of some silly FaceID, but because there are things called video conferences. Something that us who work need to do several times a week. Another option would be to put the camera below the screen, but Dell tried that and nobody was happy with the results. My life isn't ruined with a notch. If yours is, maybe you should re-examine your priorities in life. And cut down on the latte.

You pay extra 700e for that 64GB bump. That's not "reasonable" to buy just in case. Not for most people.

And no, I'm not expecting user upgradeable memory/anything to ever come back even when they pulled the old ports back out of the garbage bin but (I hope) few people are going to spend almost the cost of a Macbook Air on something they might need at some point, or might not.

I think the point was that 64 GB of UNIFIED memory is insane. The speed at which both CPU and GPU can access that memory is impressive.

Performance to dollars seems incredible!
Notch makes sense.
Design looks odd...
SD card slot??

But most of all: Is that voice actor Alison Quigan aka "Karen" from Viva la Dirt League?! 😮😍😍

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? We finally got rid of the touchbar, got our ports back, and now there's a NOTCH obstructing the center of the screen!!!? Apple, I can't believe how much I hate you when I used to love you.

I guess I'm STILL waiting for the next MacBook Pro. Or is it finally time to give up completely on Apple? Probably. Stupid ***** notch!

The top middle is hardly the center of the screen. Most have a rather empty looking menu bar there during work.

But those who embrace the notch (and rounded corners) are implicitly admitting that it's about form not function, because missing screen information is not an issue for them. ;)

I agree with you concerning the rounded corners, but couldn't one argue that the notch increases screen information? By allowing them to narrow the bezels, and move the menu bar up into what would have been unused space, there's more room for the material in the main area below the menu bar.

Though perhaps when they give the diagonal screen size, it should be the size excluding the notch area.

I still don't understand the notch anger. This is an incredible machine. The performance and battery life are insanely good. I can live with a @(*#$^&! notch. It's just not as important as all the good stuff.

Recommend reading about the notch

I know right? It just makes use of the dead area where there's bezel today. You get a perfect 16:10 resolution below without the menu bar at the top. People aggravated by this are not thinking.
