odd that the background colour is orange.. it had ALWAYS been black in the past (as far as iv seen) and if its a country thing when they opened the new one near me they should have had a red background as opposed to their standard black (im in Canada)..

I actually live 2 streets away (aprox. 350 meters) from Leidseplein, thus the soon to open Apple Store. Very excited to see this store open.

I do work at iCentre in front of Central Station (a big apple premium reseller) as a student job, so we will see some movement there. ;)

Looking forward to it.

The three crosses on the amsterdam Coat of Arms stand for a motto consisting of the Dutch words "Heldhaftig, Vastberaden, Barmhartig", meaning "Valiant, Steadfast, Compassionate". Certainly words Apple could identify themselves with!

They have used red banners before in Hong Kong:

And blue ones in Sydney:

The issue for Canada is that Canadians are known to be quite... errr... "Aesthetically conservative" and are likely to go whine on forums if Apple tried to pull anything non-standard with their Apple Stores. Just saying ;)

in his defense, orange IS a tacky color

Trivia question: Why are carrots orange?

The answer is because the dutch bred them that way.

Will they serve coffee at the Genius Bar? Or instead is it a smart shop full of Geniuses. If you get that, then you probably dont need to read the rest of this...

Sorry for all you complainers but you have no idea how culturally correct the windows and the three logos are. Think if the apple store in the US was red, white and blue and had an American flag where the stars were apples and they piped music outside such as "Proud to be an American".

Well, then it wouldn't be tacky, would it? It'd be patriotic! ;)

Were these shop coverings sponsored by EasyJet?

It looks horrific. That's not how Apple do things.

White coverings with one greyish Apple logo on each panel.

Bright Orange and 3 Apple logo's? ********* hell that looks ridiculous.

Imagine their website looking like that.

As a designer, I appreciate how Apple can be flexible and witty within it's design parameters. As a half-Dutchie myself (surprising to read how many others are too on these fora) I don't think Amsterdam needs extra greyness in the winter, so I'm loving the orange! :)

Isn't this the same building where Apple Netherlands HQ is located? Pretty sure its right off of Leidseplein in Amsterdam. I think they moved their office here last year or so...

Indeed, it is. Apple has offices on a higher floor of that same building.

Orange is our national color, because the last name of our monarch is Van Oranje (Of Orange).

i wasn't meaning its odd that its orange, i meant it was odd it was a different colour in general..

and since thats the case, Canada's national colour is red so why wasn't the background red at the store that opened up last september?

just thinking out loud really.
