4C170 seems to have improved the auto power on/skin detector feature. Before this firmware mine were really flaky about turning on when inserted. After the update they consistently turn on when inserted as expected. Great to have that issue resolved, I was thinking that it was hardware issue but it apparently was not.
Why is it so hard for them to include a changelog for these things? Glad that’s fixed for you!

I Am so sad. Today like 2h ago I put my AirPods 3 as everyday for yoga and the almost instantly disconnected and reconnected few seconds later, first left one then right. Since then I hear a quiet clicking sound anytime I even open any quiet app and close it, or anytime I press keyboard to do a sound, it clicks half second before doing the sound then I hear white noise for few secs. Sometimes the white noise stays until I go back to main page of the phone

Wtf ? I am mad and sad. I don’t want the return or repair hassle to begin. I did hard reset of iPhone (13 PM), reset the pods. Now they are 4c170 from 4c165 but still nothing fixed. Aaaaaaassa.
I was under the impression that yoga was good for inner peace, providing clarity, and calmness.

definitely reconsidering yoga as an ineffective stress reliever.

Mine only fall out when I’m tossing and turning while asleep or if I don’t twist them in. As long as I insert and then rotate back do the stem is facing down & forward they lock in place for me. How do you wear yours?
I wear them normally. I was wearing them while sitting on a public toilet and one fell inside toilet. when I stood up to get it out, the toilet sensor went off and it auto flushed the AirPod. This is when I just got them. they fall out from sitting or walking.

My AirPods Pro have a strange problem - when connected to MacBook 99% of time microphone sounds terrible- really robotic. I've replaced them twice - always the same issue - very annoying- I've stopped using their microphones
during zoom calls. Been troubleshooting it with apple support 3 times (safe boot, Bluetooth reset, etc) problem always returns but only on MacBook. They sound great with iPhone. Now I think it's actually a problem with my MacBook - especially a Bluetooth module. Going to apple Genius Bar this Thursday expecting to get that fixed / replaced.

Does anyone face similar issues?
I had a similar issue and each time it had to do when switching from videoconferences to listening to music or vice versa.. something about Bluetooth protocol and dynamic switch

I follow these steps when it happens and the issues corrects itself for me

I have to ask….

The last person that said that, didn’t realize their AirPods actually automatically updated. So check your settings and firmware update first, to make sure they didn’t already automatically update when you didn’t realize it.

For this time, I connected them to power, opened the case so it connected to iPhone, left the case opened. Few minutes later it was 4C170. Case firmware does not seem to have updated.

That is good to know. For me, the right ear always connected perfectly while the left one was always flaky. Connected a certain way only. I thought ears being ears, this is not getting detected properly. If that had something to do with sensor and not my ears, great!

EDIT

Tried with the left ear, and it connects perfectly just as the right one. Woohoo! This really is what has improved in this firmware.

I don't think they care to fix something here. In apple's world you're supposed to own an Apple watch and use the crown for quick volume control. Or just you know.. do the sensible thing and just blurt out "HEY SIRI RAISE THE VOLUME A TAD" while sitting on the subway.
If they could do it, how would volume control work?

There are no physical buttons I’m aware of. Can touch be programmed to turn volume up or down on the existing hardware? I suppose if they gave volume up duty to one AirPod & down to the other, but we don’t always wear both. Perhaps front & back taps on either side of the stem?

I’m probably not able to think outside the box enough to see how this would be expected to work.

If normally doesn’t include twisting them as shown in the Tips app that comes on the iPhone, I suggest trying that ?. I almost returned the AirPods 3 because I didn’t like the fit when I wore them straight up and down until I saw this video. These are my first pair so I wasn’t used to doing that. I just popped the EarPods in and out since the mic is on the wire which naturally pulled them forward. After doing the twist (?) I did my best Beavis and Butthead headbanging impersonations and couldn’t pop them out.

Too true. I have the watch but it defaults to wanting to control volume on your watch first so it takes a couple extra taps just to get to the place where you can use the crown to control the volume of the device you’re actively listening to. That part I feel is not very apple and am hoping at the very least they can make that experience smoother.

The Now Playing screen automatically shows up on the watch if it’s paired to the iPhone so the crown controls the volume of the AirPods connected to the iPhone. What extra steps are you having to go through?

I hope the update includes skin detection improvements. Mine always end up playing in my pockets so I lose my place in a podcast episode or in an audio book. I was actually going to search for a case I could put them in when not in my ears

And for the first time in a month and half of ownership, I have noticed that AirPods 3 are switching between devices in a way that is seamless and brings me delight.

I am typing this on the Mac. I pop an AirPod in my ear, Mac shows AirPods nearby and inside a second it takes over. Now, I picked my iPhone and right around the time the screen was unlocked and the home screen was up, AirPods moved to iPhone.

This is when nothing was playing on any device, of course. Unless I am missing some behaviour, this is finally great!

Although, I am not seeing a handoff back to the Mac when I stop music on the iPhone. I do not know if it should. Pop the pod out, pop it in, it is available to connect to the Mac again.

Same here. To me it also seems that they have tweaked something with the treble, as the sound now seems crispier and less muffled. The bass is still there, sounding as deep as before. ?

Nothing for AirPods Pro (Model A2084)? Still on 4C165. What's so special about AirPods 3?

Thanks. He advised to block AirPods microphone but I want to use it without distortion.

Do you guys think I should be bothered and worried by the Bluetooth hiss that suddenly developed ?
My pods were super good, but like 1h before the update they reconnected first left ear then right, and since then I often hear static sound when nothing is playing, and just before something begins to play I hear a “click” like they would leave the standby mode. I had nothing like this since I bought them, and also not on AirPods 1 for 3 yrs before. I iinstalled iOS once again but it persists, I also tried on 2 other iPhones but they all have newest software lol.
