I’d love to buy new AirPods but I can’t I’m good conscience buy new ones considering my current (1st gen) AirPods would simply end up in landfill. I wish Apple did a better job at recycling / replacing AirPods.
kudos. I wish more of us think like you do. Unfortunately the allure of new tech overcomes a lot of other impulses for me. But I wish I was not this way.

My V3's actually updated while I was watching Star Trek the Original Series on the Apple TV, while napping. I'll try it again with the AirPod Pros, and see if it's the magic mixture to get it done.

I say this, somewhat tongue in cheek because it took me nearly 2 weeks to get an update on my Beats. 2 weeks! 2 weeks? I was somewhat shocked that these updated while I was actually in the room, and sitting right next to them.

If nothing else, it proves that Apple AirPod Update actually works fairly quickly. I'm a believer...

You don’t need to do #4 and 5 can be plugged in as well

That's what I did. I expected it to be more 'active', having come off the Beats update that wasn't. Nope, it was really too simple. They were here, the iPhone was, and I was too. And it happened. Like magic.

No, I haven't checked the Beats yet. I'm enjoying the success of my V3's. IT DOES WORK!!! (Yeah, I hear Apple upped the urgency, making them update quicker, and it seems to be working. HAPPY DAYS!!!)

Perhaps they fixed the automatic switching between the Mac and iPhone bug? It was promised 2 year ago and nowadays it doesn't work automatically. It only shows a notification asking me to change manually.
Just got some last week and I’m really disappointed. BT is quite flaky compare to my airpod 2s. I prefer the fit of the 2s, but the pros sound better and people understand me better. Sigh.

And mine would change on a whim. I HATED the feature. I'd be on my iPhone, and start a Zwift ride, and it would be either the iPad or the Mac Mini that would wrench my music and start playing some 'other music' and it was often classical music, like Mozart, or Brahms. While trying to workout on a stationary bike? Yeah, it's like hitting the brakes. Hard... It's gotten loads better...

iPhone BT car audio connections are pretty awesome. It takes a few seconds for the changeover, but the sound is a lot better, and people that I am talking to say my voice sounds better too. All I know is the wife hated talking while driving before she got a radio capable of BT. Now, she'll talk the whole voyage home if I let her.

Edit: (No, I am not kidding!?And when she gets home, I get it: 'So, you don't want to talk to your wife?' ? Yes dear, of course I do. 'I should find someone who will want to hear my voice!' Oh gawd, no. I have to save someone else from this, somehow.:D(She still yells at me when I call her in my car, using the Bluetooth system. *shrug*))
Woman… ? sigh
Wish you have a great life.

Many of you complain about not knowing what's updated, and that you cannot force it. Remember that very few manufacturers update their stuff at all!

I am very curious though about the famous "first firmware version", it would be nice to try how it was...
Or maybe their stuff is so damn simple such regular update is not necessary?

Worked for me. :)

I just want one improvement. Enable mute/unmute action on the earbuds’ stem

Unfortunately this is never going to happen…

Fact is that it performed too well and now it’s middle of the pack. Just go read the reviews at launch and you’ll see that it had fantastic ANC with the original FW. It was a pleasure walking out of the Apple Store when I got them as it muffled the world as I strolled around NYC. I was shocked at how well it performed on the subway, they were even better than my then class-leading Sony WF-1000XM3 with Comply tips.

I’m still not sure why they would neuter one of their better products like this.

And no, I’ll never get over this. lol.

Completely agree with you. I believe they neutered it because reports that it caused headaches. Sometimes I could feel a light headache coming on with the original ANC. Have never felt it after the first firmware update that significantly reduced ANC. Still it’d be nice to have a slider and control it for ourselves.

My AirPods Pro have been behaving like by bad boys over the last two weeks. Sometimes it just works on one ear. Sometimes it does not automatically work when I put them in my ears. I'm eager to see if it's a firmware issue or whether I've dropped them too many times.
Mine have been doing that as well. Very annoying to say the least. I've not dropped mine, so it's not that.

update made my ANC even worse. I can still hear them calling my name at work
ANC hasn't even been close to the original version that came with it when they were released. They eased off on the ANC I think because it was causing fullness for some people. But it was bloody brilliant. Outrageously good for in ear headphones. And now it's just average and nothing special.

My pros updated in record time. It makes me wonder if they Beats are just going to be slow updating because they aren't Apple? But maybe they are doing the same thing, updating quicker now. It seemed to take weeks for my PowerBeats Pro's to update.

I also have this issue. I’d be curious to what kind of car this happens to you? This happens to me with Ford Sync in my Taurus SHO. It’s annoying, but it’s intermittent.
I have a. Nissan Maxima. It has a Bose sound system. I have no idea who manufactures the BT chip in the head unit.

Long time lurker on these forums, but my first time posting. My APP updated to 4A402 today and the right AirPod has ceased to function. They worked this morning before I left for work and when I tried them tonight, the right one was unresponsive. It shows up in my control center as fully charged, but when I try noise cancellation in the settings it tells me to put AirPods in both ears. The left one works and plays music in mono. I have tried multiple resets with no luck. One reset resulted in both AirPods being unresponsive. Very odd stuff. Has this happened to anyone else?

If you heard the original firmware's ANC, you'd understand that the hardware is capable. It's just infuriating that they artificially hampered it.
I’ve had my APPs since day one and the ANC has definitely gotten worse over the years/updates. I even got them swapped out through AC and the new ones were just as bad.

Thanks I was thinking there was nothing wrong with AirPods Pro's previous firmware.
Well, for one I can tell one wrong with APP’s previous 4A400 firmware: it won’t keep connected for more than 2 minutes. For me and a lot more folks across the web. The earbud simply disappear from Find My and comes back as “not your AirPods Pro”. Called Apple, they set a store appointment, got both buds replaced. Worked like a champ - with firmware 3Fsomething. Updated to 4A400, back to the same problem.

Hope this “minor” revision does fix this; as others, I don’t want these to end in a landfill.

I had never used NC headphones before, and the APP at launch were pretty incredible at it. Now, however, after firmware downgrades, it's nowhere near as effective.

I have AirPods Max, and they remind me of the quality of noise cancelling the APP used to have. But I can't carry the Max in my pocket with me at all times, and really, I need the noise cancelling from my APP in many more situations than I would use the Max. It's very un-Apple, but damn, I wish they'd just give us an "Advanced Settings" and let us choose "high" or "normal" noise cancelling.

Mine already updated. I hope this solves the hissing sound on my Airpods 3rd gen. Will test them today.

Edit: still present.

You can’t blame Apple for this.

My suggestion is you clean them up and give them to somebody who can’t afford a pair or if you’re mercenary sell them.
