We've finally reached the point where the sales guy is designing the computer he wants for himself instead of the one users actually need.

Fortunately, this kind of thing is self-correcting as Steve once said during an interview. A few crappy sales quarters and Apple will learn... or it won't.

It's a shame how out of touch they've become with their users' needs.

This is what people get for using a mostly bad OS on a decent device. There is a reason Apple made their own Operating Systems.

I strongly disagree.

Obviously, I like macOS otherwise I wouldn't be using it.

That said, I find Windows (at least the more recent versions) to be quite decent.

Are we calling this "speakergate"?

no

the "Gate" terminology finds it's roots on the "watergate" situation that occured under President Nixon in the states. It was a big deal, which spawned the name because of the Cover up situation that surrounded it

"Gates" terminology generally refer to items / issues in which the individuals involved cover up, or avoid directly addressing the issue.

"antennagate" was a thing because Apple defended their decision, claimed nothing was wrong, and even tried to lie about it to their customers. Bendgate became because of similar attempt by apple to discredit, or lie about what occurred.

In this case, it's a bad situation but Apple is owning up to it and fixing it without attempting to lie / avoid the situation.

Yep, like all the other different issues other Apple products have. You know, blown speakers, display issues on new MB Pros, retina coating issues, bending iPhone 6 Plus frames, broken iMac hinges, touch disease...the list goes on. However the majority of people, including me, are very satisfied with their machines. So yeah, I'm happy with my laptop.

ITS still a non-recoverable hardware failure.

I know if I just spent $3000+ on a brand new computer, and within 1 week, the OEM's own software physically broke the hardware, I'd be very very frustrated. sure, it's not a "priority 1" situation that prevents usage of the device complately. But it's still a high priority item that is impacting the device in a way that I cannot use all functionality that I have paid for.

It's not good, but it's also not their own software. It's Realtek drivers running in Windows "approved" by Apple. But it's not even funning in the OEM OS!

Not to worry, a replacement machine with very more better potent unapologetic magic speakers is already on the way.

You make no sense. There's countless items inside any Apple computer that were not made by Apple. So if anything goes wrong with them you claim its not Apples fault?!?

I know you like to bend over backwards to defend apple on just about everything, but this is getting ridiculous.

Yeah but Apple write the Kext files for those - Boot Camp is nothing more than mostly a bundle of 3rd party drivers packaged together - Apple barely write anything for Windows. They do approve them obviously which isn't good, but it's still Realtek who wrote the audio one (which is why it was on their site as an update first)

What happened to QA testing at apple?

It really is becoming embarrassing. My favorite from this year was the removal of the headphone jack from their biggest selling product and then needing a software patch to ensure that the bundled lightning earbuds worked properly.

So you report about this issue. Why dont you report about the wide-spread issues such as terrible battery life?

Terrible battery life is subjective while blown speakers is not.

Subjective? Maybe, but i've heard people say they are getting 2-3 hours under no real load. I think most people would think that was terrible.

Seriously? People are blaming windows and realtek for speakers that can be blown by sofrware? Really? There is something wrong with speakers that be blown this way, better to find out now.

My god people, apple sells this stuff at a premium, they should not blow with ANY software. Stop bending over backward to defend every little thing that happens, hold them to the standard THEY SET.

Maybe Apple was hoping for a headline:

Windows makes Macbook Pro Speakers Blow

I have no pity for those who fell victim to this type of apple's lack of quality.

So it's finally safe to install Windows 10 through BootCamp? I've been postponing the install just because I heard of this issue.

One step closer to Apple removing boot camp altogether. I am surprised it is still in, honestly.

Install it while headphones are plugged into the machine, then run all updates and ensure you have the updated Cirrus Logic Driver from 11/22 before you take out the headphones.

What a shame that Apple has to replace the complete computer for a couple of blown speakers. We have sunk to a new low with technology.

Oh and if you blow your headphones, good luck getting them replaced.
