To be a little more specific than some of the other responses that mention a potential Qualcomm agreement, etc...

There currently is NO legal way to purchase a license of Windows for ARM.

You can use a standard Windows 11 Pro license key to activate Windows 11 ARM on a Virtual Machine under macOS (I have done so), however I agree with you that Microsoft's current OEM licensing restrictions on Windows ARM most likely prevent Apple from creating a Boot Camp option for Apple Silicon Macs. The VM software companies like Parallels and VMWare are not OEMs (at least as defined by Microsoft) so they are able to support Windows ARM via VM.

What VM software do you use? Any software not requiring a subscription? I would even agreed to pay a one time fee

I use Parallels. I used to be on single-purchase, but moved to the subscription plan awhile ago since I was upgrading every new version, anyway.

I can download windows 11 legally directly from the Microsoft website without having to pay anything.

I presume you are referring to the Windows Insider Preview Editions (via either Windows Dev or Windows Beta channels). And even those legally require a pre-existing licensed Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation and are subject to the same Windows OEM licensing restrictions that likely prevent Apple from creating a Boot Camp environment.

If this is available, I'm not seeing it.
Ditto. How does one update Boot Camp? I am running the latest version on Monterey and my Boot Camp Assistant is 6.1.0 (6321.120.1). Software Update on System Preferences does not show anything.

Same. Not seeing this in Apple Software Update on Windows 10

Shocked and delighted to see Apple is still supporting this. I still have a few machines with BC around.

Apple today released a new version of Boot Camp, the software that allows Windows to be run on Intel-based Macs. Boot Camp 6.1.16 is a bug fix update that addresses minor issues, and it is replacing the prior 6.1.12 update that fixed stability issues with Bluetooth and WiFi drivers.

According to the release notes for the update, the software introduces WiFi WPA3 support and it fixes a Bluetooth driver issue that sometimes occurred when resuming from Sleep or Hibernation.

Apple back in March introduced a Boot Camp 6.1.17 update that is available to Intel Mac owners who run a Studio Display.

Boot Camp users can navigate to the Start menu in Windows and open the Apple Software Update app to install the new Boot Camp drivers.

Boot Camp is a feature that is only available on older Intel-based Macs. It is not compatible with Apple silicon Macs, and these machines are not able to run Windows except with virtualization software.

Running Windows 11 on a 2020 MBA. When I come out of hibernation, the KB/touchpad would not wake up unless I close and reopen the screen. Hopefully this fixes things. Rebooting now.

I would love to see the fingerprint reader work. Not likely to happen though.

According to Apple Software update I installed Boot Camp Update 6.1.17 on 4/13/2022 and you’re reporting 6.1.16 was released today?

Where is Boot Camp for Apple Silicon? And I don't want to hear Parallels 18. It's cool, but native support would be great.

6.1.17 supported the Apple Studio Display and appears to have been released only to customers who have an ASD connected to their Mac. Seems reasonable to assume it is 6.1.16 with ASD drivers and perhaps the release of that update was prioritized over 6.1.16 to allow ASD owners to use their display with Windows?

I wonder if 6.1.16 fixes issues on every Intel Mac or if it only has fixes for certain models so only those models are being targeted (like 6.1.17 evidently was) and that is why people are not yet seeing it? (I have a 2020 iMac 5K.)

Personally I think it’s awesome that Apple are updating old Macs that were never designed for a particular product with software that improves it’s functionality. Who else does this? Sure, it fixes a bug, but it also adds Wifi WAP3. Point is, they are still updating and improving Windows on a Mac.

I haven't used boot camp in years, but I found it best to just to install drivers from the various hardware vendors (Intel, NVIDIA, etc). Is that not the right thing to do anymore?

Though they could support it a step more and enable the TPM suppot for w11 on the capable laptops..
Don’t you need a specific TPM chip on the motherboard? Macs have the T2 chip for security, whereas I understood TPM was a specific chip similar but not the same, used by windows.
