They will keep iPhoto alive until Photos releases early next year.

iPhoto looks horrible on Yosemite anyways like it always has on any OS X release to be honest.. I wonder if they will keep the iLife name for the suite with iPhoto being taken away, considering iWork and iLife has always contained 3 apps.

iLife used to contain a couple of other apps, including iTunes, the web design application, the DVD authoring app, I believe...

I hope Apple continues to make Aperture compatible with OS X going forward. Even if they don't add any new features.

I agree. I would hate if Aperture refuses to load on OS X 10.11 next year. I'd be surprised if it didn't, but what about OSX 10.12 in two years? Software can't be supported forever, but I'd hate to have to run a virtual machine just to run old programs that really shouldn't have issues unless artificial incompatability is added.
I don't like to praise Microsoft, but running Office 2003 works fine still. Probably older versions too, although I haven't tried Office 97 I wouldn't be totally surprised if it was possible to get it working in Windows 7 Pro at least, using XP compatability mode. Running Mac programs from the 90s is of course more difficult, due to change of architecture (68k, ppc, then intel), but Apple and long time support isn't really true. (Glad they support IOS well though)

Has anyone tried installing Ilife from disk in Yosemite? Will all the updates work? I have issues that Imovie doesn't show updates in App store. Iphoto and Aperture has been added to my purchases tab, but not imovie. Have no clue why. (All installed from DVDs)

Based on what little I've seen in development (and what you already know), "Photo's" will be a "blend" of "iPhoto" and "Aperture", an attempt to cater to the novice and professional (or prosumer truthfully) user base in one multipurpose app. There will be plugin's, professional grade effects (and third party add-ons), RAW/PSD/TIFF/etc file support, improved organization locally ("stacks" and "projects" type replacement system) and offline (iCloud, Dropbox, etc), improved integration between Apple and third party app's. I believe Apple is leaning towards an "Aperture" style layout as it's more consistent with iMovie, GarageBand, Final Cut Pro X, etc. in layout, look, etc.

Beyond this I'm as in the dark as y'all. I do know they want to avoid a Final Cut Pro 10.0 fiasco, and they're taking their time as they want this to be a flexible, capable application for everyone.

Oh, and "Aperture" library's should simply open, after an update, allowing different libraries as a method of organization, not unlike how it is currently.

So, it will have full offline/local capability? Did they say that in the announcements?

One thing that I like about iPhoto, since they are blending, is the integration of maps and EXIF location data. Some people don't care, but, I always get good GPS coordinates when I can because I like to know exactly where photos were taken. It sure beats writing them down the location in a notebook like I used to do in the analog days. I also correct the data, so, I like to have some way of editing EXIF. And, duplicate detection and removal, too.

I do hope they have added back in the ability to delete portions of events in iMovie so that you can reclaim the disk space (not to be confused with deleting in projects)

I wish there was the option to completely dodge the new 'Photos'. I miss iPhoto on my iPad massively and I don't want to give up iPhoto on my Mac.

Is this the first version of GarageBand 10 that allows AU effects on a per track track basis (like previous versions of GarageBand)? It seems like this was gone in the initial release of GarageBand 10. It is a no-brainer that the feature has been brought back. It should never have been removed in the first place!

You could already do this in GarageBand X, it was just slightly different. That whole thing was started with people that didn't want to learn the software.
