Has anyone determined if this still has user accesible and replaceable RAM for the 27” model? Seriously considering getting a highly spec’d 27” and upgrading the RAM separately to save money.
Yes it it:Has anyone determined if this still has user accesible and replaceable RAM for the 27” model? Seriously considering getting a highly spec’d 27” and upgrading the RAM separately to save money.
It’s so sad... Tim is all about that money grab. It’s become so obvious since he’s been in chargeThe reason they keep selling stuff with those ridiculous "dusty" 5400 rpm HDD is to having a starting price tag less scary as possible. At Apple they are the first to know well that their products are expensive as hell. Because we know that as well, they should stop this farce and start selling stuff with realistic starting configurations. Even idiots know that the first iMacs, the G3s, had 5400rpm HHD, but it was 1998 , that is 21 years ago. Please Tim Apple, just quit!
Not in the Windows world in low and midrange units. Shame on Apple for giving choices from those that price shop and don’t care to internet tech sages.Yes, without a doubt. Mechanical hard drives have all but disappeared as boot drives across the board; except in the iMac for some reason. This is dead technology and the average consumer will absolutely notice the difference.
Where is the up-gradable Mac Pro and the 30-bit Apple Display w/o glossy screen?
Where is the new USB port?
Or just remove the "i" from the name.
That's what I said earlier. Not gonna be good if they didn't silently change the thermal design and fans. Can it take the i9 heat with the existing cooling design?
Considering Apple's redesign record lately (make it thinner, jack up the price substantially) I think these machines are a gift to those still wanting a capable mac at a reasonable price...Am I the only one who LOVES the iMac design and doesn't want it to change?
It's iconic and beautiful, and I can't find anything wrong with it visually. The last major revision, to make it thinner and lighter, pretty much perfected it.
The only thing I'd be happier with is better serviceability, but iMacs, especially with SSDs, have gotten so reliable that it doesn't matter as much as it used to.
Oh dear lord they've left the 5400RPM HDD.
I really don't get it. Either they leave really old slow 5400RPM drives in, or they go full blazing fast propriety SSD.... Why can't they put in SATA SSDs or fusion drivers where the SATA SSD is the small drive instead?
I have two clients with 2017 iMacs with HDDs and they're as slow as all get out.
It's called: Minimal effort.Unbelievable. The same tired old design with giant bezels. Zero meaningful innovations (like Face ID for Mac or anything else that would pleasantly surprise us). The same displays, the same ridiculous 8GB RAM. And the absolute cherry on top - the old and outdated 5400-rpm hard drives!
Incredible pipeline indeed, Tim!
What don't you get? Do you really think the average consumer cares or can tell the difference between 5400, 7200, Fusion, and SSD?

I'm really hoping so. Yesterday my AirPods went from only lasting an hour to lasting under 30 min. Maybe they're trying to tell me something? When they launched the iPads with a press release on a Monday instead of the typical Tuesday, I suspected that this was going to be a full week of hardware announcements ahead of the event. AirPods 2 and AirPower later today or tomorrow? iPod Touch refresh too?
If only Apple offered an option... oh wait
