In Tiger it just beachballs whenever you start it up for about a minute. It freaked me out the first time because I thought it would never respond again or it was a broken installation. The interesting thing is that when I run Leopard on that same iMac it happens in Leopard too.

In Leopard/Windows Vista you get weird pauses in the middle of a song and have to hit play again or it takes 5-10 to load up a new song when you click on it.

i run tiger on my 1.66GHz mini and leopard on my MacBook.

i have not had any problems with any version of iTunes to date. i do admit coverflow is a bit slow sometimes but i never use that any ways....

The slowness and loading pauses are post 8.1 for me.

Keep in mind this is on 3 computers that I own running different operating systems. I haven't installed it on my iMac G4, yet.

And please, the rest of the non-drm tracks too...

HEY!!! all non iTunes Plus songs have just disappeared from the store - looks like they are doing the final conversions tonight!! They are gearing up for the variable pricing - hopefully tomorrow like the rumour said

ahh!! when i first installed 8.1 itunes kept crashing and i could never open the program again, I had to revert back to 8.0 restore my whole library and now 8.1.1 is doing the same exact thing. I can't open my itunes at all!

These constant restart iTunes, reboot Apple TV have got to stop (although it's still my favorite product out there)

Thats happened a few times for me also since the last update of iTunes. Lets see if this fixes it.

Same - Tiger on my iBook and Leopard on my iMac. I've had no problems with either one other than a lag in the CoverFlow department. I never use it because I'm simply not a fan. I'm even more displeased with CoverFlow becoming a navigation option for everything, but other than that, I have no complaints.

It COULD be, but I highly doubt it would be because 8.1.1 of iTunes was released.

Apple has a habit of releasing several updates simultaneously. There was no new DevBuild of 10.5.7 over the weekend that I've heard of, so that suggests that release is quite close. If not today, then I would expect it by the end of the week. Or maybe it's just me....

64-bit for windows

I see a 64-bit version of 8.1.1 for Windows. Is this a first?

any word about this fixing the problem with scrolling through the library that people were having (myself included) with 8.1? (where the beachball comes up randomly when you scroll through your library)

No. I have been using 64-bit iTunes for awhile now. Runs well on Windows 7 x64 as well.

Ya, I see it has been around for over a year. I guess this is the first time they have listed it as an item on their support/downloads page.

Oh ... I do hope it fixes this weird problem I'm having whenever I try to access the iTunes store. It shows as loading until the loading bar is almost full and pauses for sometimes as long as 30 seconds before it finishes rendering the iTunes home page.

Does this happen to anyone else perchance?

Which took me all of about one minute to download wirelessly AND install on my Macbook.

Regardless of how long it takes to download, Kar98 has definitely got a point. Why can bug fixes not simply be patches rather than full installs? A bit foolish to create applications unable to be patched.

"8.1. Hmm..."

Anyone else confused by that?

Oh, rather, anyone else confused by the fact that it actually TELLS us what it fixed instead of "stability and bug fixes"?

Looks like we have one benefit from Steve leaving...

Not really if you actually read the notice

iTunes 8.1 is now faster and more responsive. You will enjoy noticeable improvements when working with large libraries, browsing the iTunes Store, preparing to sync with iPod or iPhone, and optimizing photos for syncing.

In addition, iTunes 8.1 provides many other improvements and bug fixes, including:

• Supports syncing with iPod shuffle (3rd generation).
• Allows friends to request songs for iTunes DJ.
• Adds Genius sidebar for your Movies and TV Shows.

Hardly an extensive list and in seems to be consistent with what we had under Steve.

iTunes 8.1.1 adds support for renting HD movies and provides a number of bug fixes, including addressing issues with VoiceOver and syncing with iPhone or iPod touch.
