Regardless of how long it takes to download, Kar98 has definitely got a point. Why can bug fixes not simply be patches rather than full installs? A bit foolish to create applications unable to be patched.

I'm sure they could create patches but what would be the point, if replacing the entire app is simple and painless? Patch procedures get messy if you have patches on top of patches, and it complicates testing to support all of the patch permutations. It's much simpler to just say you've got version 8.1 or 8.1.1 or whatever.

The slowness and loading pauses are post 8.1 for me.

Keep in mind this is on 3 computers that I own running different operating systems. I haven't installed it on my iMac G4, yet.

well if your iMac G4 is higher spec'd than those other computers.. it may explain a lot haha :D

Multi-touch scroll fixed!

Thank goodness, I thought it was just me that was having issues with CoverFlow performance in the latest update!

Looks like they fixed what I submitted a bug-report for...

Two finger scrolling in cover flow left and right was impossible and unpredicatble on the glass trackpads. This is now fixed in 8.1.1 - scrolls as it should. Nice.

Also (slightly off topic) I filed another bug report for the same weird behaviour when using pinch to zoom (no precision) in Safari 4 Beta.

The big question I have: does it make iPhone syncing any faster? At least make it tolerable?

HEY!!! all non iTunes Plus songs have just disappeared from the store - looks like they are doing the final conversions tonight!! They are gearing up for the variable pricing - hopefully tomorrow like the rumour said

Heh. Yeah, I got 1 album left that did not have an iTunes plus upgrade and it's not on the iTunes store now (maybe there's an option to see it, can't remember where the plus preference was anymore). Hope they'll get this remaining few over soon.

ESSENTIAL FEATURE MISSING:

Resume playback. That simple!

Even the old SoundJam MP from which iTunes was created had it. Great to listen from head to toe large playlists on iTunes on the Mac.

would you actually want to rent an HD movie?

24 hours to watch a movie isn't worth paying for - i'd rather pay an extra 5-10 bucks and own it

24 hours is the same I get out of the video store, for the same price.

There are a lot of movies worth watching once, but not nearly so many worth the money to watch many times.

Software update seems to be in a bad mood right now, anybody know if HD rentals through iTunes (not Apple TV) are available in Canada too, or is this another US-only feature?

Which took me all of about one minute to download wirelessly AND install on my Macbook.

Just told me it was ready to install. Didn't even know it was downloaded in the background. 20 seconds to install, no reboot, and still no beachballing, pauses, jerky coverflow. 1st gen Whitebook.

no problems for me, so I'm wondering whether these problems are down to something wrong with your computers??

Actually, Im running into the old iPhone wanting to take FOREVER to backup problem. Ughhhhh. Granted, I AM running 3.0, so that may be an issue, but this is UNBEARABLY SLOW!

8.1 is just working too well for me right now to justify updating and breaking something on me. Although for some reason after that patch, it stopped showing the "total track time" on the right side of the display box, and now always changes itself into the "time remaining" number instead. Not a deal breaker (obviously) but just annoying how something as simple as that could break.

Did anyone else have that problem after updating to 8.1? Did anyone notice? If this fixes it I'll update but if not, I'll just leave things as is.

Don't have this problem with 8.1.1...if I click, it shows total time and stays this way.

If I can't watch a 2 hour movie movie from beginning to end in 24 hours, I wouldn't start it until I knew I could. I don't think it's asking too much.

well when i normally rent maybe i would want to watch it and then a few days later watch it with family or the girlfriend.

so for me, it wouldn't make sense. 24 hours is too soon for me!

10.4.11

no sure if this will affect everyone running tiger but i had to repair permissions after the update (they were related to iTunes)

safari feels snappier
