I remain unimpressed with everyones "siri". Siri does what I need correctly 95% of the time. I want it to do way more, but no one else service does way more. These technologies are also surprisingly underutilized except for making funny youtube videos. Amazons devices probably get used more than anything else because there is no other interface.
My problem isn't with what Siri can or cannot do, it's the accuracy of what it can do. Repeatedly, I have trouble with it giving me directions (even places that are in my address book), understanding my request (and yes, I'm a native English speaker, although slight Oklahoma accent) and giving answers to basic questions instead of "This is what I found on the Internet." How about a Snow Leopard update to Siri before moving on to the bigger and better things?

I wish maps.apple.com worked on non-Macs. I'd happily use it instead of el Goog.

Is this real? I tried it on my Mac and it just goes to the app store.

Anyhow the accuracy of Apple Maps compared to Google for POIs in NYC is appalling. They should rid Yelp as their database.

Definitely agree with the problems you describe with the accuracy and repeatability of Siri. Some of the problems I have may not really be Siri but instead whatever app it is invoking, such as maps, but Siri is the one saying she can’t find or doesn’t understand the request so she’s the one being blamed.

I especially have problems trying to have Siri play a song. I don’t subscribe to Apple Music, I have never subscribed to Apple Music, I have not used the free trial subscription, in short , there should be no reason why Siri/iTunes wants me to use Apple Music instead of the downloaded song I have in my iTunes downloaded music folder. But on a random basis I cannot use Siri to play a song I have to open the Music app and select it. Siri or iTunes wants to use AM. I usually try using Siri to do this when driving and I don’t want to have to pull over so I’m not playing with the screen while driving. Not the end of the world but something that’s pretty basic that should work 99.9999% of the time.

You must’ve missed half of the presentation then.

Shortcuts isn’t just an app; it’s a new Siri framework to execute a series of tasks. You can do it manually with the Shortcuts app or you can let Siri do it for you through machine learning. That’s the AI part that you either didn’t understand or missed completely.

The article's video describes the manual option but doesn't mention how machine learning is involved or an option. Can you elaborate?

Siri AI picks up on your routines within not just iOS but deep within third party apps and makes Shortcuts for you that are presented by Siri on the lock screen. A list of those shortcuts also appear in the Shortcuts app. The manual option is for pro users who care for that kind of stuff. Every day users will get the benefit of shortcuts by Siri suggestions and pre-built shortcuts within apps.

I still can’t get anyone to tell me what is so useful from Google or Alexa that Siri can’t do. She can do anything I ask her.

Must be different for different people. I asked Siri to turn on my TV the other day and she laughed at me.
Google can do it with some awkwardness and Alexa is a pro at it.

There are many things I ask Siri to do and she never gets it right.

Like "Siri, set a timer for 15 minutes"
She can't even get that right for me, she more often than not sets a timer for 50 minutes.

I could have sworn it was at one point, on a Mac, in Safari. This would have been within the last two years.
