Not a limitation persé, but reading the description it says:

"Each of the four Family Pack sub-accounts has 2.5 GB of combined email and iDisk storage, plus complete .Mac features......"

Seeing as I don't need four sub accounts but just one additional account it would make more sense to pay just a little more and get the full 10GB storage wouldn't you agree? :)
I saw this too. The only thing that I think you would be mising is the family shared folder for file sharing. Probably not a big deal.

Yes.. I suppose so... but that's a non-issue I think. Could still use the normal Public iDisk folder for this.

As for your question. I see no reason why the older packets wouldn't work. It's a global upgrade. So I can't see how there could be two different types of retail subscription packages. Best to ask in the shops before buying I guess...

I am unclear - is this domain hosting good for email, or just for web? If it's both, that's a slam dunk for me, but it's not compelling enough for me to move if email can't come too.

Does this update make it possible to manage email addresses created with personal domain names? For example, bob @ bobsfish . com?

help with private domain

Hello!

I have a domain registered with GoDaddy, and wanted to use it for my website hosted on .mac. I added it on .mac, and it said change the cname entries. I don't quite understand what to do - should I simply enter web.mac.com in all cname profiles (there's "www", "mail", etc) or should I enter web.mac.com/username, or what?
Any help would be much appreciated, as Apple hasn't really given a great explanation on how to do this.

Just edit the cname profile for "www" to read "web.mac.com" The behind the scenes bits handle the actual work. (You have already told Apple that "www.exampledomain.com" should be your web.mac.com/exampledomain site, so when they get the incoming hit for www.exampledomain.com, they know to put it to your site.)

At this time, it appears to be solely for websites. The only configuration option they give is for your CNAME for www. They give no configuration for MX entries. (Fancy speak for mail.)

You know what? .Mac will never take off until Apple makes it free like MSN or FaceBook. They don't stand a chance, and I think it's a very stupid move on Apple. I have a lot of friends that own Macs - but none of them use .Mac for sharing photos or anything (actually they don't use it at all). Nobody wants to pay for this kind of service, including myself. If it was free I am sure all of us would try it out and start using it and Apple would get a lot of "internet market share" and be able to make money on advertising and what else comes with this kind of community. But now... not happening.

I would much rather pay then to have to deal with ads on the site or attached to emails, like with yahoo.

Appreciate the detail - cheers! Full domain email integration between .Mac Mail and my home Mac is a necessity - hopefully in a future update, but I doubt there is much call for it.

Here's what I don't understand (and thanks btw for the quick response): In GoDaddy I can enter something under HOST and something under POINTS TO - at the moment i have web.mac.com under HOST and PONTS TO is www.exampledomain.com - yet nothing appears under my domain (yorambannert.com btw) If you could help I would send you lots of virtual gratitude ;-)
