Unless I'm mistaken, there's a little "new" image next to the Mac Pros. I don't know what the old specs were to make a true comparison, but it is marked as new.

I suspect the new MP will get a TB graphics card update mid/late summer.

Doesn't a retina display 15" eliminate the need for a 17" screen?

Depends how good your eyesight is, and whether your priority is real estate or resolution. I have a 17", and I'm not sure I'd want the quantity of information you can get on that screen scrunched down to 15.4" even if it was super-sharp.

Just placed an order for a 13.3 inch with 8 GB. Says a 1-3 days dispatched probably because this is a BTO.

Got a £70 back to school card too, yay! :D

Bah! Dilemma!! Worth it to upgrade from early 2011 MBP? Any thoughts on how the new retina display Mac handles gaming? My current MBP can get pretty hot as it is when I play SWTOR or CiV.

I have the same system, and I would say your money is probably better spent getting a new SSD to replace the internal hard drive, maxing out RAM, and an external display. The SSD and the RAM will make the performance differences very minor, and the display is something that will last you for years even after your next upgrade. Save the rest of the money you don't spend for the update that incorporates whatever comes after Ivy Bridge.

Can anyone make a complete list highlighting the differences between the entry level 13" MacBook Pro announced today and the previous version?

I just want to see if it is worth getting the "new" one with the spec bump vs purchasing last year's model for potentially less money.

Sorry if someone has already done this, I did not find it.

Just bought the baseline of the 13" MBP from the online store and I need help finding 16Gb of cheap ram, I have no idea what timing I want

Yeah, the new one comes with 1600Mhz ram rather than 1333Mhz ram. It has the new generation ivy bridge processor, the cheapest version MBP has 2.5Ghz with 3.1Ghz turbo boost and the older version has a 2.4Ghz sandy bridge processor. The new one has integrated intel 4000 graphics instead of 3000. Other than that they are the same.

I have the choice of:

1) 8 month old 13" MacBook Pro (yesterday's version) for $500

2) the "new" 13" MacBook Pro for $1099 + tax

I think it's obvious I should go with the previous version for almost $700 less.. and upgrade in 2-3 years perhaps. Anyone think the tech bump was really worth that much more?

I have a 2008 MBP, been waiting for a redesign all year. I'm underwhelmed. It just looks like the 15" went on a diet, to be honest. I was expecting a lot more.

Turbo boost?

Excuse my ignorance, but I've searched and I just don't know what turbo boost means.

Some type of overclocking setting? If so, would it be wise to overclock Airs at all, given their heat issues? How can you enable turbo boost/ does anyone actually use it?

@Belgrano

Intel Turbo Boost is a sort of automated "on-demand" overclock fully supported by the chipset and CPU. As the OS requests more juice various factors are evaluated (heat, power etc.) and the chipset may decide it can step up the CPU speed to accomodate the request.

That's my understanding anyway - all perfectly supported/non-warranty breaking.

11" air with 64g as standard........thats pretty weak

It's not that bad as an entry level. I had the previous generation in 64gb. Worked great for my need. Could even play Portal 2 on it.

Not everyone needs all those gee bees. :p

That said. If I get one of these new MBAs I'm getting the base 13 inch. Great deal at 1199!
