14 days - just back up your system and Apple will take that back and send you out a new one with the discount refunded.

Happened to me a few years ago on the black MacBook.

Or, try calling Apple Customer Service and ask them for a refund, unless you desperately want the .1 GHZ of speed bump. I just call Apple got a $500 refund on a i7/8/512GB that I bought from the Refurb store. Was already to back it up and send it back and rebuy. No need to now.

Apple's end is a fact. Regardless of the cost of the parts... innovation is something that Apple did in the past (and more than innovation it should be named as challenging the competitors by including technologies from others in their devices), and now is just a manufacturer of laptops and phones.
Its competition has taken over, and the revolution is over. Now it is time to share the market with the competitors who actually compete on both technology and price, the latter being something Apple still thinks is not worth fighting for (but we'll see how that changes as sales get hurt over time :)

All the doom and gloom made me think of books I used to read to my kids.

Hah. Walk around a college campus, ANY college campus and see how long you can hold onto that thought. Nice try though.

I've seen quite a few 15-inch rMBPs around my uni, but not a single 13-inch rMBP. I guess that most of the people who would spring for a 13-incher would take the cheaper option. If you want a high-end laptop, you'd probably take the larger size.

That, and the 13-inch rMBP is badly underspecced.

Finally, the 13" price's is inline with the pricing on the 15" model. Finally it makes sense. Thank you Apple for seeing the light! (although a bit late for my wallet, I don't regret my 15" purchase).

Will KPOM now finally admit he was wrong all this time ? Even Apple has bandonned you in this argument man. It's over, it's all admitted. 1499$ was always the correct price.

I'm fully waiting for the spin on this one.

Wow, locally it's a 500 USD (not including sales tax) drop on the 256GB rMBP13.

Too bad there are still a lot of complaints of image retention on the retinas, so I'll probably wait til the real refresh in the hope they fix that rather than playing the panel lottery again.

Too expensive? In the USA, the 13" rMBP costs exactly the same as non-retina with the same RAM and SSD drive. In the UK, it is just £10 more. So the question isn't really "Retina or no retina" anymore, it is "SSD or hard drive". SSD is more expensive. But if you want SSD, there is no point at all in buying the non-retina MBP at all.

(Exception: With the non-retina MBPs you can roll your own Fusion drive to combine SSD + huge storage. Doesn't work with Retina display).

Uhhhh yeah, they are the same price now AFTER lowering the price of the 256 GB 13" rMBP by $300. It wasn't before the price reduction. The 13" rMBP was too expensive. I think many would agree with that assessment. Again, too expensive BEFORE the price reduction. I can still put a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro and 8 GB of Crucial RAM in a base non-retina MBP for less than $1500. At this point though, the rMBP, especially the 13", makes a lot more sense. An Air and a rMBP of similar specs are now w/in $200 of each other. I would pay the $200 to get the rMBP. That's my opinion though.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't include 802.11ac wireless in these updated machines. Perhaps it's because the new Airports aren't going to be ready for a while? Or maybe they did put in new chips—but we're going to have to pay to activate them like they did several years back for N wireless? HAH!

Exactly...

$1500+ for a laptop, any laptop, is still a high price these days...especially for a 13" display. Most folks can get a great laptop for under $1000 with or without lots of bells and whistles. The only people that spend over $1000 for a laptop are power users that need the RAM/CPU/Drive specs.

Mac Fans can reply all they want about the sleekness and the Flash drive vs. mechanical and Retina...but at the end of the day there is a very, very small % of people that will spend this kind of money for a laptop. Hence the improvements AND price drop by Apple.

Aren't these laptops that you say few people will buy actually some of the highest selling laptop models out there? And yes some people are out there deciding between a PC and Mac. But you are talking about the "switchers". A lot of people are firmly in one camp or the other. I and most of my friends are Mac users at home. PCs are never considered when it is time to replace our home computers. One friend got the 13" Retina about three months ago. It was a replacement for an old Air. PCs were never considered.

Oh this does make me a little annoyed. I purchased a $1999 rMBP 13 days ago exactly. That -$100 now gets me the 3.0 i7. Trying to figure out my options.

On hold with Apple Store now. Wondering if I should exchange for a 13" or 15". That is, if they'll let me.

I go to a college in a very affluent area. Only two students at my college that I'm aware of have a rMBP. Everyone has either a MBA, cMBP, or iPad. Nice try, though.

Are you a freshman? Because most college folks get a new computer freshman year and if it is Mac it is likely to last them all four years and more. If you are a sophomore then when you were a freshman the 13" retina was not available for you or your classmates. The 13" retina isn't necessarily the compelling computer to me at its last price point or this one, but I know folks who have bought it and I certainly would consider it if my Macbook 2007 died tomorrow.

Umm, why don't Apple upgrade the 15" rMBP's GPU to 2GB VRAM instead? I don't think that little upgrade to CPU really make any difference in performance these days, but VRAM does many tricks.

It does all seem to be a time of transition in the laptops - from traditional HD to SSD, and also to the retina displays.

Presumably in a year or two they'll be all SSD and retina, with fewer models again.

Our 2008 MBP is getting a bit long in the tooth - but £1500 is a bit of an upper limit, so holding out for a 15" retina with 512 SSD for that kind of price.

Not really. The 13" rMBP pricing is now consistent with the 13" cMBP pricing, just as it has been for the 15". Configure a 13" rMBP with 8GB and SSD, and it costs exactly the same.

can't say I care for your tone. who exactly are you to say "not really" to my perfectly valid opinion that the retina 13 is poor value for money?

I don't think it is poor value for money; I guess I could sell my 13" cMBP and upgrade to the 15" rMBP. Hmmmmm.

13" is a bit small though.

I wonder if we will see any refurbs of the previous generation 13" rMBP and what price they will start at.

Edit: Refurb is in the store. $1359 for 256GB 2.5Ghz i5 model. Not bad.

Umm, if you have a 15" why would you downgrade to 13" screen?

And it still only has a mid range mobile NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory. Completely underpowered card for this machine/monitor/needs.

Sorry folks...it's not a pro machine when my Adobe apps barely are getting the required base 1GB.

It's a joke this thing doesn't have a 2GB for pro apps and that retina screen.

And yes, I know it's the desktop, but that thing is just as damn skinny and it has a mobile top of the line NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

Again, just a joke this is a 'pro' machine and is the furthest thing from it.
