If we get iOS system or full icon theming (which I can almost guarantee we won't) - it'll be a hot effing mess if Apple doesn't gatekeep it hard. I was heavily into the Cydia theming scene back in the day from iPhone 3G to 6S, and there were so many awful themes out there, alongside very well-done themes (the ones which weren't clipart with a rounded square mask, lol). Perhaps the dev program will be a requirement, and that small cost will keep most low-effort content out.

You would think after the recent Apple events people would stop getting their hopes up.
You are right, many things predicted to be in a new OS over the years don´t materialise, lots of features users want dont appear and we lose some features that we had. Its like New Year, I look at all those people running around on New Years Eve expecting next year to be better than the current. Often its the same or worse, so lots of disappointed people. Best to assume you will be disappointed by iOS13 and to be (hopefully) pleasantly surprised, rather than bitterly disappointed.

That's a lot of effort you put into considering something that'll never happen (and you concede as much).

The fact that Snapchat is dictating where our "technology" is heading is sad.

For reference, stickers started with snapchat, then FB and Instagram added them, then Apple. I still think it's lame, just like Bitmoji.

Hope they keep customizable app icons to a minimum otherwise it will be terrible from a support role. No longer will you be able to rely on visually glancing for familiar icon and now have to resort to reading every description. Potentially terrible when it's already bad enough wading through Apple's throw everything at the wall approach.

This has always been possible in Windows. It was certainly there in the 1990s. Few people ever did it though because it was pretty pointless.

I'm not always over the moon by some of Apple's decisions of late—but Steve is the one who is dead, not Apple.
Not yet I hope but with Tim Cook trying to revive the John Sculley business model we will see how long this will last.
I pray I'm wrong.

I'm not calling this a conservative or liberal thing, I just consider it a lame thing. Uncool, unauthentic, a little bit nerdy, etc. Surprised it's become mainstream, because of how lame it is.

Can you say dark mode? I would like to see a standard dark mode AND a dark mode with neon accent and borders.
