Everyone knows the bottom line is price. And Google will always have the lowest prices because they practically give a solution away in exchange for the data they obtain from students. Following them through school and tracking their interests is extremely valuable for an advertiser.

I’m always confused on why there’s this thought that Apple NEEDS to be in education.

Plenty of money in education...People tend to use what they are familiar with so if they are used to the google ecosystem as kids they will more likely use it as an adult. Maybe naive but also some (altruistic?) reasons - caring about the quality of products students are using and believing you can provide a service and hardware that allows students to create and learn better.

There’s plenty of money but not a lot for computers especially since the intended usage is SO very limited. No one will be able to offer a whole solution like Google does at Google’s price anytime soon. And, that’s INCLUDING a large part of the support of the machines.

Back when computer usage was a limited quantity, there might have been some “this is what I learned on, so this is what I’m going to buy”. But, most kids today have been using computing devices long before they start school. So, their first exposure would have been whatever their parents/guardians let them use.

I can understand the altruistic reason for a general desire to have better things for schoolkids, but in my mind that doesn’t necessarily point directly to Apple. There’s lots of things better than Chromebooks :)

I don't know. 300+ a pop for 1000 kids in my school alone. That doesn't factor in the dedicated labs, teacher and staff machines. I think there's plenty of hardware still being sold. Apple could do $300 a piece on an iPad. I think the google software is cross platform however, and that's the appealing part. Apple isn't good at that/services.
