I’ve never used a BNPL service, but given how popular they’ve become, this move makes sense.
Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program was overdue for an overhaul. iUP users felt like second-tier customers, and requiring a hard credit check every year for ~$1,000 line of credit always seemed excessive.
They used Apple Card Monthly Installments to garner more attention to the Apple Card, but the Apple Card is pretty bad with no sign-up bonus (no, $75 at Nike is not a sign up bonus) and not many additional perks; it's main purpose is to purchase Apple products. This should be interesting so see them implement across a range of products, and likely the end of GetUpgraded.com.
