I thought the whole point of the upgrade program was that I didn't have to worry about ordering in the middle of the night and that they would guarantee annual release date upgrades.

The program gives you the option to upgrade after 12 payments have been made, it doesn't state anywhere that you have a priority on the release of a new phone

Yeah, just going to payoff my current phone and buy the next one outright. No point in the upgrade program as it's forcing you into AppleCare (at least in the US it is) and I can easily sell the 6s for more then what the pay off is.

Does anyone know if its possible to complete the entire process online, or if it'll need to be partially in store like with the 6S?

Looks like any upgrade requires going in-store and now they're completely unavailable online. This was a complete bust. I went ahead and ordered a 7+ 128G Tmobile (full payment) for delivery to my home. Because of the futile effort to use the upgrade program, delivery is now pushed back to Oct 4-10th.

I'll just pay off the 6s and sell it on my own.

I just pre-ordered on the upgrade program and wasn't given and option for in-store pickup which is what I really wanted

Kinda odd that there was no mention of APPROVED or DECLINED for the upgrade program it just asked for SSN and boom done.

Couldn't make an appointment either. I refuse to have it shipped. Guess I will be at the store on launch day!

I went through with the order but because of ATT's stupid rules my only option was to have it shipped to my parents house under my moms name. Im gonna call Apple in the morning to try and get this changed or do in store pickup

We’re not taking any more reservations to upgrade your iPhone right now.
Reservations will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on September 17. Please come back then to make a reservation.

On in the first 3 minutes. This is some bull.

This is ridiculous. Reservations filled up within seconds. So apparently I'm eligible to upgrade after 12 months, but it's not actually possible to do so for 14 months. Basically I now have to pay 2 extra months and won't be eligible to upgrade the next time the iPhone comes out, since I'll only have 8 months of payments at that point. What a rip off.

All black 7+ 256 (either black) in MD/VA/DC were gone by the time I finished completing upgrade process renewal. I think Alaska and Texas were offered as options lol.

This is insane if they keep on insisting on in-store stock for IUP renewals. Or we just have to try in a week or so when more stock comes in and forget day 1. Sheesh.

Yep, this system defeats the purpose of the upgrade program. I'm thinking of skipping the 7 and going for financing every two years starting with the 7s or 8 if they call it that.

I was thinking the same... If you ever can get in a store on day 1, you can just pay the extra two months to catch up.

Yeah this upgrade program just became very very very less desirable. I'm going to have to make a 13th payment on an old phone making it less cost effective. I knew it was too good to be true but I fell for it anyway.

Yep, completely defeats the point of the upgrade program. People signed up to be able to get annual upgrades. If we still have to go through all this then what's the point!? In addition, because we're tied to the upgrade program, we're delayed by a few seconds filling out the forms, which can mean weeks of delays for delivery. I went forward with a straight purchase and will NOT be every using the upgrade program again unless they set it up for auto upgrade.

What's really annoying is I had no problem getting a reservation last year. This year I made a copy and paste error with my serial number and wasted about a minute trying to figure out why the form wouldn't allow me to submit. By the time I figured it out all reservations were filled except rose gold 256 GB which I didn't want.

That means Apple has reserve slots based on color which is also stupid. Apple must know which colors are more popular. They should make more of those available.

I guess the only good thing about this is I get to see what kind of problems people have with the 7 / 7 Plus before I get it.

Well it was totally messed up for me. First screen tells me I'm in the upgrade program, which I am. When I try and upgrade my phone. It tells me I'm not enrolled. Seriously? I only own one device. How could they mess this up so badly?

This. Unless there are changes like online replacement it's back to selling it myself, trade-in, etc. No Black 256 Plus anywhere in CONUS except Alaska, Texas almost. Lol.

You can't just show up at the store and use the upgrade program. You need to reserve an appointment.

It's not the extra delay. If you are already in the upgrade program, the only option for purchase is to make a reservation at the store. Apple apparently only reserved a handful of each color phone per store for that so there's like a 1 in a million chance of actually getting a reservation.

My only hope is that the reservation stockpile is separate from the walk in stockpile. Otherwise I'll have to make months of extra payments. If that's the case I might as well not upgrade at all and just pay via my carrier or pay full price for the 8 when it comes out.

I'm curious about this too...I was expecting to see approved or declined right away....I'm wondering if they will come back later with some issue...

Does anyone know if I can call Apple later to have them edit delivery details for IUP ordered on ATT account. It wouldn't let me edit those details at checkout.

I think that if the order goes through for processing then you should be good. I saw a charged immediately start pending on my credit card
