This has been possible in theory for years, but almost no EVs send their battery capacity/SoC info to the phone using the official APIs. Like another poster mentioned, it’s basically just some Ford and Porsche models. There are third party mapping/planning apps that communicate battery info with the EV via a Bluetooth dongle plugged into the OBD-II port. But there are dozens of these devices available, so you have to figure out the right one for your app(s) and car(s). Would be much more useful/ elegant if the car makers would just send battery stare to the phone via the CarPlay standard!Missing CarPlay in our Equinox EV (came from a Bolt EUV).
That said, the integrated Android system will estimate battery percentage on arrival to a destination and back (assuming you want to return to your start point) which is handy and I'm not sure if CarPlay has this capability.
My finger always “defaults” to the Google Maps icon using CarPlay. Which I can start or stop en route. And also report incidents (vehicle stalls, congestion etc). Plus the satellite real world view just looks so much better.Just let me select a default navi app, then allow me to start or stop navigation, as well as reporting incidents using that app.
There aren't enough useful CarPlay apps to fill out three rows. Plenty have a CarPlay icon, but why would I use Panera from there?
Maps, music, podcasts, text, calls. That's about it.
The answer is nobody.......until they need to press one on their in-car display.I don’t know who goes into their car and looks at icons.
Not with NOAA going away. Idiots...What we need (and what I have been calling for for years), is a functioning, auto-updating, weather radar and an upcoming weather alerts system. If I am traveling on I-40 and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is 15 miles ahead of me, show me that on the screen, tell me, alert me somehow.

I think this is why GM is not allowing CarPlay or AA with their EV's. I've had this vehicle for a tick over 3 months and while I do miss CarPlay in some aspects; I'm doing fine without it. Also no Apple Music app and Bluetooth from the phone is clunky, so I'm using YouTube Music since I'm already paying for YTPremium.
NOAA isn't going away, Tone. Not with NOAA going away. Idiots...
I have a Volvo EX30 running Apple CarPlay and I wouldn’t wish for anything else. Works brilliantly without cablesI'm looking to pick up a new vehicle this year. My current ride is pushing 5 years and I have health issues. I need to know that when I go to my ride, it's gonna start and it's gonna get me there. Besides the fact that it's what I want
That being said, 2 vehicles are in the running going into the final stretch. One is a GM product, another is a Toyota.
No Apple Music in my car is an absolute deal breaker. Period. I'm leaning towards the GM option as it has the powertrain and towing options I want, but GM is really crapping the place of slumber with this no Car Play business.
It's as dumb as Ram selling a full size pickup with no V8 engine option. Regardless of what you think of these vehicles from a personal standpoint, some people (like me) do have a use for them. Anyway, no one is bying the new 6 cylinder Ram's. They're overpriced and the new 6 engine is unreliabale.
Sometimes I think these car makers are living in a vacuum.
Oh, and make a Tacoma with a V6 option again please! Sheesh.
Probably the company that though it was a good idea to plaster a full-screen "musical note" graphic on your device during music playback if there's no album art, instead of using that space to show you the title and artist.Does it still take over the entire navigation screen to display a caller’s name when receiving a call while driving? Who thought that was a good idea anyway 🙄
Did Apple make your car?So improvements for newer cars and nothing for the rest of us, huh? Does Apple think people upgrade cars as often as they do phones or something?
