The internet has done such amazing things brought humanity out of the dark. There’s absolutely no problems that the internet and smartphones caused. Everything has been amazing. We are an enlightened species now. Yes I can’t wait to be a lonely goggles wearing anti social internet person with VR scars all over my face and messed up hair.

No problems createed by the internet? Do you want to retract that? Think about spam and crypto scams... that's a huge problem enabled by the internet! Calling ourselves "enlightening" is pushing it when we're doing it to ourselves! Humans are the only species to kill each other for resources, not pure survival.

I think the Vision Pro will enable new forms of healthy communication that will battle current forms of anti-social habits. I love that it supports digital personas, so I can be in my undies and they'd never know! 🤣

This whole thing seems incredibly dystopian. I remember prior to Apple Watch Tim Cook on stage saying nobody wants to wear glasses unless they have to but the wrist was “interesting”. Now he (and Apple bloggers like John Gruber) want us to believe consumers will gladly wear big, bulky googles on their face? So they can show off a perfect ‘persona’ of themselves on a Teams call? Seriously? This might be really cool tech but it’s tech for tech’s sake. It’s a solution in search of a problem.

The important takeaway is that this is just a "stepping stone" to what's coming next. Technology only ever evolves... you can't skip that. Today it's a big bulky headset, but tomorrow is a 3D environment without any worn hardware. We need to start somewhere. Think bigger!

Yes, but "This is cool!" wears off after a few days.

It's the use case that puts long-term life into a product, and I still don't see any value or interest there for the average consumer.

Like other headsets, this will be destined for the lonely unused equipment dusty shelf in the game room.

Can I put this comment on a poster and refer back to it in 5 years? I promise I won't sell 10,000 copies. 🤣

Excited for this only for the fact it will harm Meta. I support any company that does so and one that relatively is more privacy conscious. Same reason I support Apple’s car. Not because of the brand, but the chance for a car to exist that doesn’t cost a ton but still takes a ton of your data like crazy.
If anything, I think it will help Meta by making VR look more mainstream and desirable. Maybe Meta has ambitions to be the Apple iPhone of VR but I'm guessing they'd also be happy to be the Android and Samsung of VR.

Meta doesn't just want to have a VR version of a gaming console, they want to build a general purpose device, but the tech just hasn't been there yet. People look at a lot of text when using computers, and VR has been lacking in the area of fine detail and visual clarity, which isn't as important for a gaming-focused platform, so Meta started there.

I want this more and more just to experience it, but I could also see it being a fun way to relax.

Another use case I can see is in-bed working. Those who are physically challenged have harder times sitting or standing. Lying down with these while trying to do work might be amazing.

I can’t see myself taking these outside though, or anywhere really? Maybe at work I could find a private space to use them and that could be fun. But the second somebody asks to try them they’re getting a rude “no thank you” in response.

Not everyone can just “go outside”, and the thought of feeling like I’m sitting in a forest meadow while I’m in my house is intriguing.

I’m actually glad the price is so high, it means the tech will be mind blowing, and may continue to feel great even for years.

Just return within 14 days if not satisfied??

I may have to buy just to try them, and if I love them well… I’m sure Apple will have the ability to finance them over time.

Then I’ll try my hand at app development for it, since nobody wants to try it apparently, I’ll be one of the first 😁

Or it’ll just be a waste, I don’t really care.

For sure I’ll try it in the store first and see how heavy it feels, but if the fit is right and the image is mind blowing, I’m likely in it and will be trying to come up with the next iBeer.

Good to know. Will definitely take some time before it is available in more countries

Don't see why you would buy this unless you have the money to burn, have more money than sense, or you want to develop for it.

Most people should just wait for the 2nd gen headset or even the 3rd or 4th. I'll maybe get one when we're on the 4th or 5th gen and they have a "cheap" SE version or something.
Or you don't want to wait until 2027 or later for the rumored 2nd generation.

As someone who's actually been enjoying the Quest for the most part, the Vision Pro is almost everything I wanted it to be. So I'm buying it as soon as I can.

I could wait until 20XX for the latest and greatest but it seems a waste if I want the device now. This applies to nearly every device. I remember rumors of an Apple Watch redesign for years. And yet we're still on the old design (except for the Ultra). If I hadn't bought my SE Gen 1 back in 2020 or whenever it released, I would've missed out on owning an AW for 3 years and counting.

It's pointless to wait unless you don't want/need a given device in the first place.

I'll change my mind if this first gen ends up being terrible for whatever reason and/or the rumors strongly indicate a successor or "Air" version coming out in late 2025.

But the rumors seem to suggest 2027 or later.

Plus the international market won't get their hands on the Vision Pro until late next year. So it would be very odd for Apple to release a second generation any earlier than late 2025. And even that seems optimistic to me.

what can u actually do on it, it has no killer feature, I had the quest 3 for 2 weeks was fun the first few days but then just didnt need it. these are gimmicks and wont take off
Then the device simply isn't for you. And that's totally fine.

I don't need a top of the line MacBook Pro now that Apple Silicon is more than powerful even for the baseline M chips. Doesn't mean it's a gimmick or that someone out there won't need a MBP with 50000GB of RAM.

Same goes for the Apple Watch Ultra, HomePods etc.

I personally enjoy using the Quest (when it works how I want it to). So I'm looking forward to Apple's take on it. Meta's software is f*cking abysmal.

The one thing I want the Quest to work really well for is streaming and it doesn't have the software support to do that properly (outdated Netflix app, browser doesn't support most streaming services, streaming services haven't made native apps for Quest etc.).

But when it works it's great. The resizable screens, immersive environments etc.

Since the Vision Pro will likely have all of the aforementioned and more on Day 1. It's a pretty exciting moment for those who are into AR/VR.

I am sure the experience with it will be amazing once there are enough apps to cater for different areas.

My only concern is the weight of it.
I love and hate my AirPods Max.
Sound is incredible, but my ears burn from heat after 15 minutes and I can’t stand the weight of them.

I don’t know how would I tolerate this expensive device as it comes to weight.
Same here. If it's the same weight/comfort level as the Quest 3, then I don't mind. Apple's straps look more comfortable so that should help a bit.

And the Vision Pro appears to be the same size and sticks out about the same as the Quest 3. So weight is the main concern for me.

I see how a lot of people might find the Quest 3 uncomfortable, but I could use it for hours on end if I'm in a seated or laying position. Moving around is a bit more uncomfortable but significantly improved over the Quest 2 since the center of gravity is closer to your head, so noticeably less neck strain.

We'll have to wait and see how Apple's take goes. I'm worried about the glass front making the center of gravity further from your face aka like the Quest 2.

Something about this strikes me as one of those Apple products that will get advertised but either never arrive or arrive in a different format a couple of years later.

While simultaneously alienating those around you.
You assume that everyone lives in a big family that all enjoy doing the same things together. In my home neither my wife or daughter care for any sports outside of "The Big Game" Also, when I watch cricket, I doubt there is anyone in my zip code that is also watching the same game.

Think about all the savings with Vision Pro. For example a family of four now spending $3500 for decent seats to a professional sporting event can now just use the Vision Pro and have even better seats for every game! Just one of many life experience examples btw.
This must be sarcasm, right? Because a family of four would first of all need to shell out $14000 before they can begin saving … I would agree that the VisionPro has that „better seats for every game“ potential. Buf if that potential is commercially tapped, Apple would charge a premium for a virtual seat in row 20 at the midline of an MLS match and most of us will only be able to afford a seat behind the goal line. 😊

Yeah, you could say that, but a more accurate way to describe our situation would be the lack of or absence of free market capitalism.
Or I can say what I said. Don’t need tone police or pendants to try and dissect or dismantle my comment with “well, achtually”…
The culture and society is bigger than “the economy”, and so was the point made in my comment.

Is VR still a thing for adult? I can't say I really know anyone that has a VR rig and would admit to using it for adult content. I guess "I'm playing a VR game, will be done in ~10 minutes" might be a little sus.
I would say that it says a lot about the state of the world when many people will happily tell you they have been playing a FPS simulating shooting people, but no one wants to admit viewing adult content.

Those distances are just simulated though. There is only one plane of focus. So your eyes may only focus on that single plane.
Or they may not. The part I found surprising about VR is that I required distance vision lens to view a screen that is a couple of inches from my eyes. If I take a screenshot of a scene, I will often have to refocus on the popup, as it will initially be doubled because the focus of the current scene is distant. Anecdotal, perhaps, but everything I have experienced to this point indicates that my eyes are focusing at many different distances while using a VR headset.

Your eyes are converging at different distances—your eyes cross more when looking at something that is closer to you in the virtual scene. But the lenses in each of your eyes are not changing shape to focus, because the screens and lenses in the headset are in a static position, so the focus distance for the screens stays constant.
Meta has shown a few prototypes that use various methods to change the focus distance dynamically, but there haven't been any commercial VR headsets that have the capability. It's pretty much inevitable that dynamic focus distance will eventually become a standard feature in VR headsets.
For older folks, the lack of dynamic focus in the headset isn't as much of an issue, because the lenses of our eyes are losing elasticity. No need to wear reading glasses or bifocals in VR headsets with a fixed focus distance!

Has that ever happened before?
Outside of AirPower, can’t really remember Apple ever announcing anything that they never ship or ship in a totally different form.
Usually what’s released is pretty much what was announced.

Why should I buy a device that controls my whole view? Imagine what that does with the "focus muscles" in your eye. Even if that image looks like 3D, your eyes will always focus at exactly the same distance while your are wearing it. That is very unhealthy.
So you are saying that sleeping is unhealthy for eyes?

Lol they didn't spend billions for this not to arrive

I just don't have confidence it'll arrive on time with exactly the specs Apple originally listed. No way does a device like that deserve last year's chip rather than a modern one.
