Gonna be a really Steve Jobs place to work when Management can not only see what your working on, but can also evaluate your worth as Human Capital by reviewing your every eye movement vs. company business when they strap one of these on.

Oh, and just in case, Apple has become the Business Suit with all the 'Gotta Expense This' tech they keep producing.

But, this AR/VR offering will probably find a very useful niche in getting some work done in very professional setting.

Great post. To anyone out there planning on strapping this device on their face for 8-10 hours a day for work (possibly more)... I say good luck to you. Your eyes will eventually suffer from it, I can promise you that. Spare me the "I will take breaks like I do now" routine. A ten minute break every so often will do nothing for your vision. Between strapping this thing on my head for 8+ hours a day to have virtual office for work over using the hardware I have now and having nothing on my face and head, I'll take the physical hardware any day. Or having this thing strapped on my head to watch the super bowl in AR/VR land or watching movies by myself over interacting with my friends and family while watching either with them, I will choose live interaction. It's not about imagination. It's about this device being stupid and pointless beyond the initial wow factor.

I bet people who are house bound o bed bound due to a disability would disagree with your statement. this device could be game changer for people who live alone or get limited support and allow them to interact with the world and have more independence. *shrug*

Don’t forget the eerie video image of the users face shown in glorious 2d on the front of the visor, for the full “uncanny valley“ effect…

It’s not 2D though. The front screen is linticular: what it shows changes as you move left to right (think of those plastic image things that you tilt and it shows you different frames of an animation). So you can see the side of someone’s face if you are looking at them from the side.

This actually makes it “3D”: each eye can see something different.

D'uh, what a surprise. I hope it can also store and work with that data. E.g. when you have theheadset on when you're going to the fridge, you can later, when shopping, ask siri if there's any beer left. Or ask it later where it has seen a certain object (you named before) for the last time.

And they wouldn't be in this category, would they? "...for the vast majority of people anyway." *shrug*

It could be extremely interesting to see what Vision Pro determines which part of a picture or web page has your attention.

Dude, don't bother trying to convince them of the f"utility" of this product category. They'll soon start saying "Oh, Architects and Surgeons will need this totally!"

As if 99% of the human population has an MD or is licensed by the state to design buildings for construction.

"It might help the bedridden grandmas!" My grandmother was bed ridden before she passed away. She was barely aware of what year it was and a headset would not have improved her quality of life.

And as for disabled people, I was on Disability for a few months after the accident. If you can afford a Vision Pro on Disability, you don't need Disability.

THIS is the one feature that makes this type of tech interesting for me. The fact that it can track what you are looking at, and then give you information on that object is actually useful. I still think the form factor and power requirements are limiting, but 5 years or a decade down the road, this could be useful indeed.

That is when you use the VR space of the sanitized Apple House. Lol
I never see the background of my laptop or iPad or iPhone because I have app icons everywhere anndddddddd....I AM BUSY IN AN APP that blocks the view of it.

What is this, 2001 and Microsoft just enabled 1024x768 and we're all amazed we can have a background photo?

The model in the photo couldn't commit to a full smile or just straight face? They had to make her look brainwashed?

Whether your eyes are focused on something that is just a few centimeters away vs. a few decimeters away doesn't matter, so by your argument (which was already tired around 1910), anything from reading books to looking at screens at a desk is bad. In either case, you're not exercising the accommodation muscles, and should be taking frequent breaks.

Go ahead and strap this device to your head and use it 8+ hours a day, five days a week, for the next couple of years. Be sure to let us all know how it turns out. Thanks in advance!

Wow. I humbly apologise for questioning Apple's level of attention to detail...

...yes, VR/AR with eyeball tracking could be wonderful for some sorts of disability/illness. For others it's going to be harder to use than a tablet or keyboard.

There's a whole range of "niche" uses where it will be terrific - the question is, do those niches add up to "the next iPhone"?

I fear it will, instead, become "the next Newton" - hugely impressive but not ready for the big time until its size, weight and rate of battery consumption have been reduced by iPhone:Newton ratios!

And this is exactly why this product will be booming for the masses. People have to find the next gadget to get themselves hooked on and will call anyone else a hater for daring to shoot it down. And Apple knows it.

It’ll be great when people have no farsighted vision in the future and are unable to drive or do anything that requires depth perception. I could go on about making the population weak and unable to fight back (because that’s exactly how you do it) but I don’t think anyone cares as long as they have their constant stream of entertainment. Oh, and self driving cars (lol).

Which, for non-Futurama fans, was the from the episode "Attack of the Killer App" where everybody queued up to buy the new "eyePhone" VR eyeball implant.

The first iPhone was really not very popular. The first Apple Watch and iPads were considered a joke. This one might be a bit too early but I have no idea how to tell...what I do know is that I'll be finding out.

This is a new product category for Apple. Unlike the Newton, they won't just start making revisions of it and let it die - like Microsoft has been doing with HoloLens for the past 8 years. I expect Apple to push this as far as it can possibly go whether it catches on or not.

Unable to "fight back"? You are aware that fighting back with technology is a hell of a lot more powerful than benching 400 lbs and carrying an AR-15, right? The idea that we communicate with each other would have been the first thing "they" prevented, the Internet would have never existed, let alone launched by "them".

If there's anything "they" want to do, it's to cause people to lose faith in their leaders, so "they" can become the new leaders.

this has been on pixel phones for like 5yrs and its more advanced with one slick u can find price of shoes clothes r harder coz they have too much variety and not just shoes other things too
