I like this keyboard and I can live with the matte screen. I also like my trackpad, not sure about the 2009. What should I do?!

Since you're fine with the matte screen you can eitehr keep it or go to the A store and fool around on one of the new ones until you decide if you liek the 2009 more. You could prob arrange to do the swap there.

I would take the 2009.

OK, well since all of you said to go with the 09, I...... went with the 09! You guys know better then me, you say, I shall follow.

So, any way the lady was "miss informed" and kinda lied to me, she said it would be an even swap, WRONG! I know better then that, come on! So I asked to speak with the person that she was talking to. Had me on hold for like 10 minutes then I spoke with a lady (estella?) I think that was her name. Any way, she said she could give me a discount on the new one. So the grand total?

Refurbished 09 Macbook pro "15 with 2g RAM 250HD, two GPUs, for $1450.00 even.

That was only $100.00 more then I charged for the 08. I hope I don't hate it and cant type because the keyboard looks like it is hard to type on!

I would keep the early 2008 because I am not a fan of glossy screens (and the unibody's is a mirror) and I really don't like the new touchpad (too stiff and too LOUD compared to the early 2008 I had).

Concerning the keyboard: the feedback from the keys you have is better, but with the new layout I make many less typos.

De gustibus: I would sell my Unibody MBP for getting an Early 2008 MBP without any doubt. Many people upgrade to Unibody...

I just came back from trying the new MB_Unibody - I know my sig is in preparation to buying one this late Spring - and I love it; especially the TrackPad. The only thing that worries me is I'm a very fast touch-typist of the old school typewriters; which is to say I'm not super old but I hammer on my keys while I type. A bad habbit that got worse going from laptop to desktop (work to hope) on a daily use. Due to that my thumbs hover on the touchpad - of my briefly owned HP Pavilion DV2404ca laptop and the pointer moved all over Vista/XP/Win7Beta. Anyone have this issue on the MacBook Unibody?? I didn't notice it in the store but I didn't use it in depth or for longer than 10min.

Advantages is there is LESS chipsets to overheat, faster memory bus due to the southbridge is also the video chip that shares the 1066mhz RAM, and faster performance even on low because of what the video chip can do (9600 M). Not a major performance bump in graphics but better daily use other than video compression, editing, conversion. Battery life less by 30min is negligable and hopefully will improve with Snow Leopard - better support; video card performance bump.

I just hope the track pad and keys don't piss me off! lol
people are saying they love it, so I'm sure I'll get used to it pretty quick. Hell 09 MBP for $1450. with tax?! Thats a deal.

Now about this DDR3 low latency issue? will it be fixed? Also Will snow leopard run better with 09 MBP since it has a better BUS or will it more or less be the same?

09 Macbook ZEN

So, I'm sending my "new" refurbished Macbook pro early 08, for a late 08 or 09 model.

I just want to know form the people that have it, some of the things they like and dislike. Would you go to an early 08?

Also is the New Macbook pro more ready for OS X SL?

No idea; you'll have to ask people who are not suppose to talk about SL.

regarding "hardware" issues such as ports, case defects etc I think you can read about all over the forum. regarding SL, I don't think the new MBP is "specially" equipped for SL. I think it's just that since SL uses the GPU for GPGPU parallel processing, it'll be faster in the new MBP since the GPU is faster, but there's no "special" optimization for it.

Zealots, read this carefully:

FACT: the touchpad is incredibly stiff and loud if you click. Its sound is ridiculous if you consider that we live in 2009.
FACT: it is possible to "tap to click", or double-tap to do a lot of stuff. The "tap-to-click" or "double-tap" works really well.

FACT: Depending on how you use your touchpad, it can be a joy or a real pain.

Those are FACTS. It's a FACT that there are people in love with it others who hate it.

Have you ever used the MBA touchpad? Well: that one is wonderful, combining size with normal pressure to do WHAT YOU CANNOT EASILY DO BY TAPPING OR DOUBLE-TAPPING.

So please, stop answering "you can tap to click, it's silent!": you can tap to click on every touchpad in this world, even on those from the lousiest manufacturers.

Yes I bought a refurbished MBP early 2008, with glossy screen. When it got here, it had a matte. So the only one they have is the new 2009, and they will give it to me!! no extra charge?! I just wanna know, what you guys think? I like this keyboard and I can live with the matte screen. I also like my trackpad, not sure about the 2009. What should I do?!

Many users prefer the Matte display to the glossy, then again some prefer the glossy.

Personaly, I think, if your happy with the Matte, then you should keep it because the Unibody version only comes in a glossy or "glassy" screen, with the exception of the 17" which has yet to ship.

beacuse I love my macbook pro so much that the very thought of not having it with me for over a 24 hour period would make me wanna "shriver up and die"

I love my mac, and I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO PC, EVER!

I'm glad you like your Mac.
On behalf of other's, welcome to the world of Mac.

Like you pal.. I like the older machine a lot more!! For a start the Pro keyboard is gorgeous to type on! I'd go as far as to say the build quality is by far superior!!

"Tap to click" is a software feature users have to enable.
It's not an hardware feature so to speak.

Uhm, I have to disagree. You can use it, but the usability is so bad compared to MacBooks. I just had to use a Dell in my last class because one of the sites was IE optimized and I was to lazy to run VMWare, and I have to tell you, those trackpads are HORRIBLE! I ended up using a combination of the nipple :)p) and just tabbing on the keyboard.

That was only $100.00 more then I charged for the 08. I hope I don't hate it and cant type because the keyboard looks like it is hard to type on!

Well I have to say that that's a really nice price on a MBP!
And I had the same concern as I when I was getting a MacBook. I was good at using it within a week and now I can touch-type much better than before. Whenever I use a normal keyboard now, I just can't use it! The keys are too close together :p
Anyway, enjoy your MBP!

I would take it and ruuuuuuuuuunnnnn

The only downfall for me going for a uni would be the lack of FW 400 AND the price of RAM at the moment. I have the matte screen and i love it. I use mine all the time, and when it is sunny or lots of light out, i still get some glare, i can't imagine the glass books' glare..

other than those problems, i would swap. I mean FW 400 isnt that important and RAM will go down in price...

OK...but you can get a new Firewire 800 to 400 cable for $10 or an adapter for $10.

Like I said I did it, thanks to most of you guys. the extra $100 for a 09 unibody macbook pro was a hell of a deal. I like this keyboard much more then the older one, the keys give me plenty of room, a lot less typos.

I also like the trackpad, very nice. Over all I got a 09 unibody macbook pro for $1450.00 yes it is a refurb, but I would pay some one $100 if they could tell the difference because this thing REALLY is brand new. it has also been look at for any problems, as apposed to a new macbook, this one has been "under the microscope"

Awesome. Glad it worked out.

And to Thistle - I understand your points, I was just suggesting to the OP that there may be other ways to use the product which were less annoying to him.

UltraNEO* is right in my opinion and Patriks7 articulated very well my frustrations with other "cheap" trackpads (like the one at work I use) which almost kept me from considering ever using a laptop without a mouse - until I found my Unibody MBP.

I have the same experience you have: on non-apple notebooks I am not able to use the touchpads, even when they provide drivers enabling you to set pressures, hot spots, etc. etc.

I loved to use touchpads on Apple notebooks. I used to tap even when there was a button. Loved, because I had to buy a mouse when I received this magic buttonless trackpad. Nowadays, you do realize when you are in the same room with another Unibody user: clock clack clock clack clock clack clock clack clock

Really: I don't understand any more people in the Apple world. There are people claiming to return MBP or MB for a 2mm gap between the base and the screen (I have it, I consider it normal) or for a loose battery cover (I have it, I don't consider it normal, but it's not annoying) but everyone accept the C L O N K. In Italy we started using Unibody's touchpads in place of the bells in the churches. We go there, get synchronized and CLINCK CLONCK CLINCK CLONCK CLINCK CLONCK. We are very good and don't ask Apple for money.

I know in this world everything's subjective... but this is a tool where you usually spend 10 hours per day... If you like your C L OOOOONK, you should think about other people. We cannot be selfish.

thistle

PS. I cannot click any more when I use the computer in a room where my girlfriend is already sleeping. And I am not joking.

Thank you. That was a great reply, full of humour, and good truths too.

You're absolutely right - and it just goes to show we're all different -- and we use our hardware differently. I like the tap to click - and I think... just think that the reason I do it is because that clicking started annoying me (to be honest) - which is why I suggested to the OP to tap to click lol. Also, the only other notebook exposure I've had is with PC's and a macbook, not previous macbook pros.

I'll come join your bell ringing clan.

Oh and as for the perfectionists -- I may or may not have a perfect macbook pro but I don't have a ruler so I'm not that worried about the 2mm gap. :D To those users that go apesh-- over that - more power to them.... but it's not worth my time and I agree with you.

It takes lots of types to make this world go around -- and discussion boards make me realize that every day. :D

Have a good one!

I keep writing as a zealot myself because I am quite sure that these threads are read. May be they will realize that if you're sitting with your notebook on the lap during a conference where the speaker's speaking and you need to select, copy and paste text and images in order to complete your work, it is quite annoying using (or hearing) the loudest and most advanced touchpad in the world.

I'll come join your bell ringing clan.
You will be very welcome :)

I hated the track click at first too. I couldnt understand why it was so hard to press it. And then I realized that the trackpad is intended to be clicked on the bottom half of the pad, where it is MUCH easier to press, whereas the top is very stiff. I almost use the trackpad now, like it has buttons on the bottom and use it to perfection.

Used my brother's old MBP and got so used to the click-pad, that I absolutely favor the new pad over the old one. In addition, you can set up the click-pad bottom right hand corner as a right mouse button click!

I use tap to click...I personally don't see a need for any "clickable" buttons at all with the multi-finger gestures and taps options. It's so much faster and easier to tap two fingers for right-click and double tap for click-drag, etc....
