For all those whining about how upset they are about this, please share the story with us of how you were materially and negatively impacted! We'll wait....

Spare us all your fake outrage. You are not even as close as important as you think you are, to feel that someone *could* have spied on you.

Feel free to leave the Apple Ecosystem if you're so gravely hurt. I'm sure you'll love all the viruses and adware and deliberate spyware in the Google Play store so much more.

Wow. :D

Basically Apple's behaviour here is less analyzed than the woman's.
The fact is you did what you typically do. You hype the superfluous around the periphery and downplay the crux of the issue. The simple fact is even if the woman was out to do nefarious damage, it wouldn't change Apple's reaction to the issue. Somehow you want to give the impression that the woman's actions seeking fame and fortune is equivalent to Apple's negligent disregard on the issue of the actual exploit. Those two things don't carry equal weight.
It's only a matter of wearing an uniform or your clothes. With the latest you're able to choose your style and reactions, with the first you don't stand a chance to have a personal idea, you just have to follow a screenplay

The fact that this person was tweeting ever news org under the sun last night yet won’t share the full emails/bug reports or Apple’s response. Sketchy to me. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a site like this believes 100% some random person on the internet. It makes Apple look bad so of course people here believe it.
She posted about the exploit over a week ago. Are you saying she retroactively hacked Twitter and inserted a tweet with a fake timestamp to get fame? That is reaching even for conspiracy theorists.

Ah, that's what happens when you rush software. They should have taken their time and released this sometime after 2020.

Apple has a bounty program for just this reason. Zero credibility for going to a news organization after Apple seemingly didn't give any meaningful response? That seems very responsible to me. It isn't like this person posted how the exploit worked like all of the other news organizations.
The claim of "zero credibility" because the person went to a news outlet doesn't make any sense unless what they claimed wasn't true. Since what the person claimed to be happening has been confirmed by Apple itself, they ARE credible. (one can question the person's MOTIVE for contacting the news, but that's not about credibility)

Serious answer. I don't care. You shouldn't either. Whether she's seeking fame, fortune, or just wants to see the world burn... it's immaterial. What you should care about is the state of your devices. That woman's motivations can't affect your devices. Apple's actions, or lack there of, can affect the state of your devices.

So in the grand scheme of things, if she was seeking fame... great. It got Apple to get off it's butt and do something.

Oh ok, so not gonna answer my question, got it. Also, I really hope you don't think someone trying to fame whore actually got apple to act any quicker than it would with any other reporting method...

Reality is there is no full proof way to have cameras and mics and be sure your device is safe no matter what. Wether its a stupid bug Apple misses or the NSA hacking your phone. The only safety measure is to black out your cameras and try and muffle your mic when not in use(maybe some kind of case)

These things will no doubt get worse as humans continue to merge with devices/tech but it's the price you pay for having these things at your disposal.
Hardware switch.

Yet they claim they care about privacy, marketing 101.
I wonder how can people still defend Apple in this case.
By no means I am defending apple, but I think this story doesn’t really mean apple don’t care about privacy. I think the reason is that apple support/apple care is really really bad. I think apples support is literal **** these years, cannot solve any problem and take months to do anything. The problem is probably just not reported to the engineering team.

I find it creepy that they could call and hang up and end up listening/watching for hours. I have two FaceTime calls that were not answered by me 5 days ago and one was a random person and the other was an unknown number. Usually I get zero FaceTime calls...now I’m becoming suspicious that they weren’t random at all..,

Truthfully though....this is a major blunder on Apple's part. I'm sure they get an inordinate amount of bug reports, both major and minor, every day. But when someone puts this on your radar on multiple fronts and it goes completely unanswered it's a sign that the review process if fundamentally flawed.

If this lady reported it on the 21st the Group FaceTime service should have been offline no later than the 22nd and there should have been a press release detailing the issue and the corrective action. Instead it sat there for a week until it blew up in their face.

No way to spin this other than a massive failure by Apple. Hopefully they learn from it and are better for it going forward.

Typical for a fat grown, arrogant company (that Apple has become).

This is a week, people. Plus a day for the more fanatically precise. Yes, Apple should have responded right away. However, they would also need to investigate. Give that a day or two.

But we’re dealing with real people. I can imagine some overworked employee not reading it quickly enough. I hardly think Tim reads every communication sent his way and I doubt he was standing over the employees shoulder saying don’t respond.

Tim Cook should tender his resignation IMMEDIATELY. No excuses. He needs to go. Along with Cue, Federighi, Ahrendts, Riccio, and ESPECIALLY IVE, HOWARTH, AND ALAN DYE.

No I’m saying I’m skeptical about the current narrative that she alerted Apple and the company did nothing about it for over a week and only responded when it blew up on social media/rumor sites. Let’s see all the communications she had with Apple; let’s see all of Apple’s responses. Every news org under the sun is trying to get an interview with her. OK, fine, then let’s get Apple’s response as well.

As anybody who has ever filed one will attest Apple often don't immediately respond to bug reports.

John Meyer posting up more details on his timeline, has spoken to the mother, who is a lawyer in Arizona. Sharing, letters, email and video sent to Apple.

Where are Apple’s responses? Surely this woman has them. Is Meyer going to be sharing those? Has he reached out to Apple for comment? Why is everyone ok with making assumptions based on one side of the story?

The Apple support team is Apple as a company as a whole, in the end of the day it's tied to Apple and even if it's true they didn't care then it means the Apple itself doesn't care.

This is awful. This is one of the worst bugs imaginable. This bug allowed remote users to spy on you. It also demonstrates that you aren’t in control of your privacy, despite everything Apple preaches. I mean how on Earth is their software written such that access to your microphone and camera can be granted without explicit user acceptance? FaceTime must be rotten to the core if this can happen.

This event points out what was always true, your iPhone and iPad are spy devices you willingly pay good money for. This makes me think a relative who turns off all cloud and connectivity services isn’t as crazy as I thought.
